In February 2021, after weeks of freezing weather, my wife and I spontaneously set out to explore frozen waterfalls and landed at Elakala Falls—and it was absolutely worth it. The falls, frozen in motion, surrounded by snow-covered trees and quiet trails, created a truly magical winter scene.

Beautiful falls with easy access (Blackwater), wooded walkways and a short distance. Was a bit more crowded than I expected but still was able to get some great photos from different areas. There's restrooms and a Gift Shop as well. Elakala was a bit more difficult to hike, be careful on this one some areas are steep if you choose to take the shorter path to the falls. Smaller falls but you can walk up and get quite close. There's native American folklore behind these falls as well but no one knows for sure. Definitely worth the trip while in Almost Heaven...

Update: these waterfalls are still amazing to see. If you stay at the lodge or are in the area, these are worth seeing and it's just a short walk. The trail starts just left of the lodge, and the first 2 waterfalls are easily seen. You just have to make your way down into the stream to get a good view, which isn't too hard. There are other waterfalls downstream (I've seen pics of them), but I couldn't find a safe way down...
