Another beautiful falls in the Blackwater Falls State Park.

This is another easy one to get to. Clear path and boardwalk to the top of the falls. However you really don't get the true beauty of it from the top.

Going down to the bottom of the falls was a bit unclear due to the thick snow and potentially dangerous with the ice. We luckily had our ice clamps from Banff Canada to use during these winter getaways so we were OK. It also is a steep hill with ice so be careful.

But the bottom of the falls is so worth it. Take your time but coming down at the bottom...

Elakala Falls is a beautiful waterfall and an easy short hike within Blackwater Falls State Park in WV. To get there navigate for the main lodge in the park, and the path to the falls will be to the left of the building as you face its main entrance. The trail to the falls is short, though to get down to where the prettiest photos are taken it gets a little treacherous/slippery - so wear good shoes to negotiate the mud and wet rock. Afterwards the walk to balanced rock deeper into the park gives a nice change of pace in surroundings if you're...

Absolutely beautiful falls!! The trail starts a little easy but it takes some climbing down once you get close to the falls. If you have bad knees I don't recommend trying this trail. It's .50 of a mile. You can find the beginning near the front of blackwater lodge. It's a beautiful spot and you can go right up to the water. I highly recommend going it's not a long journey but gorgeous and I can't wait to go back!! It's now on my list of places to visit no matter how many...

Just 3 hours drive from the DMV, this is hands down my favorite part of West Virginia! It’s beautiful, it’s FULL of outdoor adventures, and it’s SO underrated. My recommendations for the perfect summer road trip are focused in and around Davis, but just a heads up the drive between places can be up to an hour because there aren’t many roads! ALL of this info + tons more are on my blog (Epic Weekend Road Trip Itinerary: Dolly Sods, WV) 👉🏼Which activity looks the most fun to you!? [📌SAVE for planning + tag your adventure pals!] 1. Hike in Dolly Sods Wilderness- one of the most unique areas in the country. I love the Red Creek Trail for all the waterfalls 2. See the sunrise at Bear Rocks Preserve- right at the northern entrance to Dolly Sods, no hiking required! 3. Hike Chimney Top via North Fork Mountain Trail- my favorite hike in WV, though a challenge for sure! 4. Visit Blackwater Falls State Park. Some must-see spots are: -Blackwater Falls (short hike) -Elakala Falls (short hike) -Pendleton point (no hiking) -Lindy Point (short hike) 5. Check out Douglas Falls- down a 4x4 road just outside the state park (continue on to Kennedy Falls) 6. Hike to the top of Seneca Rocks- OR, go climbing! Did you spot the climbers in the video? 7. Stay at Harman’s Log Cabins! We love this property and the all the opps to explore. @wvlogcabins 8. From Harman’s, hike into the National Forest for the coolest swimming hole… 9. Or just walk outside your cabin and plop a tube in the river! Peep @happilyeverexploring & @mindyonthemove who I’ve had to pleasure of adventuring here with! 🙋🏻‍♀️ ⛔️Please help preserve the beauty of WV by staying on established trails, disposing of all waste (even food scraps), respecting wildlife, and leaving what you find. Visit lnt.org for more info! ⛔️

In the Allegheny Mountains of WV, Blackwater Falls State Park is the perfect place to visit in any season! Just a few hours drive from DC, this park has a wide range of hiking options for all ages and ability levels. 57-foot Blackwater Falls (the main attraction!) even has a handicap accessible trail. 👉🏼Here are the spots within (and nearby) the park you shouldn’t miss! [📌Save for your future trip!] ⛔️Help preserve the natural beauty by staying on established trails, packing out all waste (even food scraps 🐻), respecting wildlife, and leaving what you find. Visit lnt.org for more info! ⛔️ 📍Blackwater Falls Overlook This “main” overlook offers several viewing angles, including right in front of the falls. There’s also an #AlmostHeaven swing where you can check in to the #wvtourism waterfall trail! 📍 Blackwater Falls from the “gentle trail.” This short paved trail is handicap accessible and offers a beautiful view! Just use caution in the winter- it may not be passable. 📍Elakala Falls A quick .5 miles out and back, or you can opt for a ~4 mile loop with the Yellow Birch Trail and check out Balanced Rock. 📍Pendleton Point This one is a must because it’s SO easy to get to- no hiking required. This was sunset, but sunrise might be better here. 📍Lindy Point This is THE sunset spot. It’s a quick .8 mile out and back hike to an amazing overlook of the Blackwater Canyon. 📍Douglas Falls This one is technically outside the park boundary, but worthwhile to visit! If you can make it down a rough road (4x4 recommended), it’s a very short walk. Keep going beyond Douglas Falls to see Kennedy Falls. You’ll also find Albert Falls right alongside the road (just before Douglas). 👉🏼Who are you visiting here with!?

Who wore it better? 🤩 Fall was definitely my favorite, but it’s beautiful in every season! Blackwater Falls State Park contains many of the most photgraphed places in the state of WV, and it’s easy to see why! My favorite thing about it is how accessible it is. The major viewpoints are very easy to get to, and there’s even a handicap accessible trail to Blackwater Falls Overlook! I recommend at least adding Elakala Falls, but there are 20 miles of hiking trails in the park for you to make your own adventure. After your hike, head to @stumptownales for a 🍺! I also highly recommend @riverfrontwfpizza for the best 🍕 👉🏼These videos show Blackwater Falls from the main overlook. It’s .4 miles out and back, but be mindful there are several stairs. ⚠️Please remember to help preserve this beautiful park by leaving no trace when you visit! Dispose of all trash properly, clean up after pets, and leave what you find.
