Me and my husband got married here almost 3 weeks ago. It is really beautiful and the museum provides different halls to rent for your wedding Day. They also provide the chairs, tables and other amenities which is nice and on the other side you don't have worry about it. However, I would advice to hire a day of coordinator because even though we had communicated every detail and timeline there was still some communication that was missed on their side and between staff on the wedding day. Our cocktail hour was handled wrong on the bar side which the Museum also provided. We did a split-bar and communicate with the Manager about how we expect the ticket situation for the drinks, however not sure if her assistant, Shelby, was provided with that information because she dismissed the bar situation. She didn't provide the tickets for the drinks during cocktail hour and she even gave my husband some attitude when he ask for the tickets and she said she thought we were going to provide the tickets. If you are the vendor why would we provide that on the side? So much lack of communication. Also it says that the museum provides access to the art gallery for cocktail hour and even though our guests arrived minutes late to the cocktail hour, they turn off the art galleries lights before the cocktail hour was done and pretty much none of our guests got to enjoy the art gallery. If something is said to be done at a certain hour just because people aren't there doesn't mean they have to shut down the access especially when the timelime says at what hour the cocktail hour is going to be over. Everything else was okay but definitely hire a professional day of coordinator because they dismiss what we told them through emails, phone...
Read moreThe best collection of Florida art I have ever seen! Stunning facility that shows off the artworks to full advantage. The artworks and frames appear to have been treated to top notch restoration where needed so the pieces look fantastic and the lighting shows each one off to its best advantage. This museum is worth a trip from anywhere in the state or further away if you are interested in art featuring the state of Florida painted by such diverse artists as Milton Avery, Beanie Backus, Martin Johnson Heade, and George Inness to name but a few. There will soon be a cafe so you can spend several hours enjoying the paintings at your leisure and then get a snack before your next adventure. Many Florida art museums are disappointing because they lack the depth of inventory of older institutions and you can cruise through in a very short time. Not so this museum - you will want to take your time looking through this extensive collection of top quality museum worthy...
Read moreThis collection of Florida focused art takes my breath away. I feel a deep gratitude to the Browns for making their private collection public, and their generosity is their legacy. This collection ranges from lush river landscapes to harbors, small towns, private homes, wildlife - oils, watercolors, wood block, illustrations...the collection is vast and interesting and tells the story of Florida.
I would, however, recommended that the museum add a formal docent staff. I have yet to visit this museum when someone, or a group of someones wasn’t actively engaged in conversation either using their pretend “whisper” voice, or at full-blown outdoor volume. A docent presence (and docent intervention in these situations) would preserve the experience of paying guests who understand, and respect...
