Bass Hole — Attraction in Dennis

Bass Hole is such a fun free spot to visit! It has a unique salt marsh landscape, and during low tide, you can see lots of little crabs crawling around. Early July is the best time—the marsh grasses are lush and vibrant.

There’s a long boardwalk full of meaning, with each plank engraved to honor people and their beloved ones. At the end, there’s a small viewing deck perfect for a short rest. On one side of the boardwalk is the rocky marsh, and on the other, the sandy beach—truly beautiful.

Today wasn’t too hot, with a mix of sea breeze and sunshine that made everything feel open and uplifting....

We visited the Bass Hole Boardwalk (Gray’s Beach) at sunset, and it was such a beautiful experience. The sky turned into shades of pink and gold over the marsh, and the gentle breeze added to the calm.

The boardwalk itself is a nice, easy walk over tidal marshland, stretching over the salt grasses and water. From there, you get panoramic views of Cape Cod.

This is my fiancée and I’s favorite spot to watch the sunset on the Cape. If you’re looking for vast, colorful skies, a comfortable walk, and an oh-so-satisfying whiff of sea breeze, look no further.

My two tips:

1. Arrive early, particularly in peak season, as parking is extremely limited.

Stay late. It’ll be tempting to follow the crowds out as soon as the sun disappears beneath the horizon, but so long as the weather is nice, nothing will beat the privacy and serenity...
