The West Dennis Beach is an extensive beach with a nice soft sand. Unfortunately it is also covered with sea weed with a lot of sea weed along the shorelines well. While this does provide some opportunities to find shells and living clams, it does get in the way of kids playing in the sand.
The beach is also known for having a gentle slope away from the shore, enabling you to go far out at low tide.
We did get to see a live horse shoe crab crawling along close to shore.
The sea gulls are also pretty bold so secure and food you have in a gull proof container. While we were out walking a gull reached into a picnic basket like bage we had, pushed up the cover, pulled out a bag of chips ripped it open and started eating. We saw this happening and ran, but not fast enough. Saw the same thing happen to someone who left a pizza in a box on their blanket.
For a $30 entry fee I might try another beach and hope for less sea weed if you are looking to play...
Read moreNice big beach very good parking u can basically park right next to the beach and take like 10 steps from your car to your blanket. It’s on the south facing shore so it’s not as nice as the other beaches. Lots of seaweed and water is darker. But not bad. It’s a little pricey to go during the day. I can’t remember but I think it’s like 30$ give or take. And that’s way too much. Go after 4 or so and you won’t have to pay. That’s where I go fishing when I’m there. Go all the way down to the breakwater at the very end is your best bet but it’s fishing...
Read moreI think the 4 or 5 star review ratings are for you tourists to go here instead of the real nice beaches. You will love this beach if you like swimming and walking on seaweed amd broken seashells along the shore. Otherwise, stay away and go elsewhere. Positives are that there are lifeguard stations and a decent snack bar. Beach is long but not good for walking barefoot due to the many seashells and rocks. No waves in July when we went. $30/day...
