This rather isolated park is one of the natural spaces next to the South Platte River. Unfortunately, South Platte River Drive separates the park from the river and there is no access to the South Platte River Trail from this space. You must go directly north to the adjacent Johnson-Habitat Park to access the river and the trail.
Platte River Drive cuts off the east side of the park and the other sides are surrounded by a rather sleepy industrial area, so the park is generally very quiet. There are two large sports fields and a generous parking lot, so I imagine things get crowded when a game is in progress.
The other major amenity of the park is a small but beautiful lake at the south end. A pedestrian/bicycle path meanders through most of the park and there are also large grassy areas.
West Exposition Avenue cuts between Johnson-Habitat and Vanderbilt parks. It ends in the large Vanderbilt Park...
Read moreI love to work these fields, except in the dog days of summer, when on field 1 the pitch disappears into the afternoon sun. The infield dirt was renewed in recent years by the addition of dirt from Coors Field, as were several other Denver city ball parks. Coors Field had replaced their dirt playing field areas, and donated the old dirt to the citizens of Denver, as I understood it. At any rate, the red dirt on these fields has improved the beauty of the park. It's great to call games here, 2 fields; field 1 has a 265'-275' fence, field 2 has a short fence in left field, like Fenway, I think the base is at 250' with the fence itself being 30 feet tall. This tall fence runs from the 3rd base line to mid-way into center field. The right field...
Read moreThere are 2 softball fields one is ok to play on, the other has a huge drop just past the infield. This makes for unsafe playing conditions, because it is close to a foot of elevation difference. On top of that the outfield was extremely water logged causing my feet to get stuck in the grass. The fields were in better shape than the parking lot. So many potholes that were fairly deep. The fact that they have paid organized sports being played there is horrendous. This is the most I have paid to play on any softball league, so I would expect a much better manicured...
