Des Moines Mercantile — Attraction in Des Moines

I started following Des Moines Mercantile on Instagram because it reminded me of Rose Apothecary from Schitt's Creek. I could not wait to come in person solely based on how gorgeous & cohesive their Instagram feed is. On your first visit, you'll truly feel the owner's heart walking into the shop. It's cozy, it's comfy, and knowing that it's curated by someone who loves every single item in the shop is so special. Mallory and Rebekah are so warm and invite you in with huge smiles. They're super knowledgeable of the products in the shop and offer so much help to customers. The shop highlights local goodies and it's so fun to walk through and see a lot of Iowa's best in one place. Every time I walk in, I find more and more and I know for sure that there's something for everyone in the shop. Bringing out of town guests to the Mercantile is one of my favorite things to do. Incredibly cute and well curated shop. I love that this sweet shop sources so many items from around Iowa and that the selection is always changing and evolving. I have bought several items and my favorites have been their candles! These handcrafted ceramic vessels filled with house made candles smell incredible. Love that they will also refill them for you for $10. I love the emphasis they put on simplicity, sustainability and livability. So many items to make your home cozy, functional and beautiful. They also have such a great collection of books for all ages....

This store is absolutely gorgeous. I visited for the first time last weekend and was delighted to find a blanket I had originally been planning to purchase online, but the in-store experience of seeing/feeling it in person (and supporting a local DSM business by buying it in person) made the purchase all the more meaningful. A great shop for making gift purchases…I think there is truly something for everybody here. At the same time, all of the products are carefully curated and make the shop have a cozy and cohesive feel. I can’t wait...
