Nice, neat, new park that could use a little bit of TLC
The 2 different playgrounds are neat and convey the Amusement Park theme really well - I'm frankly kind of surprised that they don't have some sort of plaque or sign talking about the history of the place. Although maybe that's still coming.
Both sides have a lot of nice equipment for the intended age ranges and the older side had some neat moving equipment that our daughter loved. We weren't there for a concert, but I imagine that is probably a fun event.
Things that were good: There was a moderate amount of dedicated parking The playground is nice, new and unique - you won't find this layout at another park in town The playground has that nice new spongy/rubbery surface instead of wood chips There's a nice paved trail circling the park It connects to the bike trail system The grandstand looks like it allows for some good shows
Things that were not so good/missing: The parking area isn't paved - this could be a problem if it's rained lately When we were there on a Sunday, there appeared to be one trash can and it was filled to the brim (overflowing a little) There was trash that appeared to have blown around the park needed picked up No bathrooms in the park - this would have been a nice add/would have allowed people to spend longer here No shade other than the little cover for the small kids play area Not real surprising, but worth mentioning that it didn't have a tennis court, basketball court or...
Read moreGreat new park that has many options for inclusion for children with special needs. There is a merry-go-round that has space to roll in two wheel chairs. There are two bucket swings with pull down support braces and a zip line with a bucket swing. Several portions of the main climbing structure can also be accessed by children in mobility devices.
The paths in the park are made of smooth, wide sidewalks. The play areas have the thickest, most comfortable surface I've ever felt. There are lots of built in benches for parents to sit and watch kids play.
There is a section with some shading dedicated to smaller children that has rocking horses and spinning seats and a merry-go-round that is low to the ground for smaller children. There is another section that has musical instruments for the kids to play.
The park also has a huge, open green space and a large bandstand for...
Read moreThis was our second time going to Riverview Park for a concert. What a great venue. It's large, so you can put your chair anywhere and still have a great view. The sound is amazing. The stage itself is beautiful, with multicolored lights adding to the experience. If you go for Rendezvous on Riverview, you get food trucks and drink options in addition to the free concert. We went on July 5th and there were fireworks too!! Well done Des Moines!! This is a great park, rich in history (I read the entire story every time I go there), with a fun playground for the kids. They just added real bathrooms, so if you take the kids there for a picnic, you don't have to use a portable potty. All...
