ChaCha’s Hiland Bakery — Restaurant in Des Moines

Good donuts....different options than some other donut shops and bakeries for sure. Two downfalls are having to be there at the crack of dawn to get a big variety because they are sold out of most of the flavors not long after opening. Not the businesses fault....but sucks for the consumer. Also...when you have a dozen assorted donuts and step up to the register and it's just under $40 ($37) and then a tip.....it's pretty scary. That's just outrageous for just donuts. Add $20 to that amount and you can have a very nice breakfast for the family with everything you want. 😯👍 UPDATE: I could not respond to the owners comment as this only lets you edit your review. OWNER RESPONDED TO MY REVIEW WITH SARCASM. I WAS NOT EVEN ANGRY ABOUT MY EXPERIENCE UNTIL READING THEIR RESPONSE! I DID NOT SIGNIFY WHICH DONUTS/PASTRIES I BOUGHT....BUT I ASSURE YOU THAT MY BILL WAS RIGHT AT AROUND $37 AND THEN A TIP...SO YES....THE TOTAL WAS RIGHT AROUND THE $40 MARK. YOU CAN EASILY FEED YOUR FAMILY BREAKFAST FOR UNDER $60 AT NUMEROUS PLACES. I HAVE LOOKED AT YOUR RESPONSES AND IT SEEMS LIKE YOU HAVE A VERY HARD TIME ACCEPTING EVEN SMALL OBSERVATIONS OR CRITIQUES. IRONICALLY A MAN THAT WAS CHECKING THE HOURS ON YOUR DOOR WHEN WE WERE WAITING....SAID HE DIDN'T LIKE IT AS MUCH SINCE YOU FOLKS TOOK OVER. EASY TO SEE WHY NOW. I WILL BE SURE SCREENSHOT YOUR WONDERFUL WORDS TO SHARE WITH OTHERS....

We were immediately helped by someone who took our order and overcharged us for a dozen donuts with two drinks. The donuts were all stale. She didn't make our drinks and started helping the line of customers that had just come in and forgot us completely. After forgetting our drinks for over 10 minutes and me having to mention the drinks twice she asked another person to make them. The coworker went to start the drinks then stopped immediately to go help customers in line forgetting us again. At this point I waited at the counter for them to finish with the other customers and had to ask them if they were going to make our drinks.

To which she replied. "Oh I thought someone else had made them. My bad." She then turned around with a shrug and continued to check someone out and make someone else's drink.

The young lady who was supposed to be making the drinks walked up and said oh I started to make the drinks, but our machine broke, but only for a second. Then walked off.

A young gentleman then walked up and asked what our drinks were and made our drinks for us..

Thank goodness he made the drinks and they were actually tasty. But a good 30 minutes of waiting later and $60 dollars for 1 dozen donuts that were stale and 2 drinks.

I personally wouldn't recommend...

I can't say enough great things about ChaCha's Bakery! My friend pre-ordered a custom cake from another cake baker five months in advance, only for them to cancel a month before the event. So I reached out to ChaCha's (with only 3 weeks notice), and they were more than happy to take on the order with just a vague description of the original request (I was working off a screenshot of a conversation).

Not only did they communicate clearly and professionally, but they also called to clarify details before starting. The end result? Absolute perfection. The cake was beautifully done, and when my friend saw it (it was a surprise), she was so overwhelmed that she cried—it was everything she had dreamed of.

I don’t need to search for other bakeries in town because ChaCha's is the only place I'll go from now on. I met the owner at a chamber event years ago, and I'm so glad I did. If you want top-tier service, exceptional quality, and a team that truly cares, ChaCha’s Bakery is the best in...
