I intensely regret attending this college.
The Game Design program I was drawn by turned out to be a swindle, cobbled together from unrelated, pre-existing courses. And those courses were little more than shallow explorations of ideas that anyone with an Iowan high school degree will have consumed and spat out long before being asked for thousands of dollars. In those instances where I did learn something new, it would (with alarming regularity) come in the form of a link to a YouTube video I could have readily found on my own.
Many professors are regularly unprofessional, rude, menacing and/or flatly combative (though my experience with this sort of behavior was limited to the faculty in the English department).
And the courses you pay for may not be the ones you end up with. In one instance, I was given an A for a class and told not to continue to come, when the professor decided that some of us should simply be moved to a different, internet based, turn-key course. In another instance, the class was informed that the course's name and subject matter were due for a change in the coming year, and that the course we were attending would instead teach to that new (and unrelated) material.
The library is stocked with ancient, irrelevant books. The staff aren't required to use the school's provided grading and assignment system.
I advise anyone reading this to turn away. Consider the near 100% acceptance rate as the warning I should have heeded- and that you still have time to do. If my experience is any indication, Grand View should only be mentioned in the same breath as Trump University, and in no...
Read moreInstructors are pretty good, but the business office and guidance counselors are a nightmare!
I withdrew from a term due to health problems but they kept me enrolled, and gave me F grades even though I was not attending class. Then to top it off they canceled my student loans, then charged me for the term. The guidance counselor argued with me about not withdrawing, but I did although it was over the phone due to my back being broke at the time. I talked to the Vice President to no avail either. It stayed on my credit for 7 years and it is still haunting me.
NOT TO MENTION I HAD A 3.8 ACCUMULATIVE GPA, AND 4 YEARS UNDER MY BELT PRIOR TO THIS TERM, AT THIS INSTITUTION. GRANDVIEW RUINED MY 4 YEAR GPA, RUINED MY CREDIT, AND WAS THE VERY REASON I QUIT COLLEGE ALTOGETHER!
THEY DO NOT UNDERSTAND HEALTH PROBLEMS. THEY DO NOT BELIEVE THEIR STUDENTS OR LISTEN TO THEM. THEY DO NOT HELP VERY MUCH WITH SECURING AN INTERNSHIP. THEY WILL STAND BEHIND THEIR NAME AND FACULTY BEFORE ME THEIR STUDENT. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS SCHOOL. I HAVE BEEN TO 2 OTHER SCHOOLS, ON THE DEANS OR PRESIDENTS LIST EVERY TERM, AND NEVER HAD THE PROBLEMS I HAD AT GRANDVIEW UNIVERSITY. I WAS A SCHOLAR WHO REALLY ENJOYED SCHOOL, AND I WAS IN MY 30'S SO I WAS A MUTURE STUDENT AS WELL.
This was my unsatisfactory experience at Grandview University in Des Moines...
Read moreGrand view university is very clique, has a horrible science program, minimal and somewhat tolerable dining options with little concern to students safety. I was enrolled for a semester and had a horrible experience. My car was broken into and I had little to no help resolving the issue. My roommate and I had no AC until a gas leak occurred within the first couple weeks of moving in and they fixed it with no notice; leaving our desks, furniture and room covered with dirty footprints and build up of dust bunnies from the old AC. When we moved in there was also a used condom and old stickers in our room. Due to the minimal options for food i also lost at least 15 lbs during the months I was enrolled. At the end of the semester I tried connecting with the housing department to discontinue my housing contract for spring semester. I was strung along being told that all these issues should be enough reason to allow me the opportunity to move back home and continue my education. However, the movement was denied, resulting to me having to drop out of grand view. I now understand why their acceptance rate is so high because enrolling in grand view university is pointless unless you are an athlete or take a role in religious...
