Another Des Moines Gem 💎 El Cowboy is me & @KenyaBeeFr favorite spot!! We go there so much that they know our order 🤭 Great Customer Service, full plates & large margaritas for an affordable price! #fyp #mexicanfood #desmoines #iowa #foodie

Heads up: Long and descriptive review ahead! Our first time trying out Cowboy, and it was busy as heck on a Monday night (granted, it was Cinco De Mayo). Despite that, service was impressively fast and friendly!! Servers were incredible at remembering orders, checking in on needs, being understanding and patient.. genuinely quite impressive for this day and age! Food: First off, the menu is flowing with well-organized options! Secondly, our group ordered Enchiladas Rancheros, Carnitas, California Burrito, and another burrito (I can't recall the name.) All 4 of us were satisfied to impressed with our dishes! The carnitas plate even came with a piece of cooked cactus! An intriguing thing to sample. Portions are fair and flavor is good! Drinks: Margaritas are smooth and strong!! STRONG! But so smooth they're sneaky! We had a blast. Lol The vibe: At first, I was nervous, I'll admit. It was busy, most seating is table style rather than booth, and it was a bit tight. We were fortunately put in a booth next to the wall, which was assitive for me as I have sensory difficulties. The atmosphere was buzzing and loud at times because they had a live band! I know that can be a plus for some people, and I actually enjoyed that once the marg kicked in a bit and mellowed me out. Also, overall experience was really lovely because while every table is its own group that has come in, something about the live music and quaintness of the space made for a warm, communal vibe. While we only had a brief, friendly encounter with the table next to us, there were moments that the restaurant filled with clapping for the band or a young boy who broke into dance in front of the band, and there were moments like a collective gasp and then celebration after a glass broke and then was resolved. Our whole experience was impressive and enjoyable, but what caught me by surprise and got me most was the truly wholesome community vibe. The way the workers worked as a cohesive team, the band interacted with the customers, the customers flowed together naturally, etc etc.. absolutely lovely and so needed in this world today. Maybe not all experiences here at Cowboy are like this.. maybe most are.. regardless, we'll be back so long as the food is delicious, the drinks are strong, and the service is peak level like it was tonight! Definitely a 10/10 recommend!

Decided to try this New Mexican restaurant that is in the neighborhood. Upon when we first arrived and when we departed, the service was exceptional. Ricardo (the manager) was our server and he was excellent. Once we were seated (right away) they asked if we would like queso or guacamole immediately. (This always seems to save time and they had the bus boy bring them to us along with chips and salsa. Ricardo (the manager) was our server and he was excellent. We ordered our main course and it came out in maybe 5-7 minutes. My girlfriend and I both ordered the fajitas. She ordered Steak and I ordered the Montes fajitas to give them a try. When I food arrived it smelt amazing. The portion sizes were good and the food was priced right for the amount and quality. The food was overall very very good. So far this is going to be our new “go to” Mexican restaurant in the area. At the time of our visit this restaurant does not currently have their liquor license but is expecting to get it in a few days. This was not a big deal to us even though we both would have liked to order drinks. We will definitely return to try some drinks when they have their liquor license. Over all we were very happy with our visit and plan to return. Update: We have tried many other dishes and they are all amazing! Service is still outstanding! They also now have their liquor license. This is my new go to for margaritas and frozen margaritas. This is our new go-to Mexican joint!

Wow, where to start, this place is excellent quality Mexican food! All the staff {Ricardo} are very friendly and attentive always checking on us. This is our new Favorite fun place to go. We go most Friday nites, live music Mariachis that go to each table to perform. The atmosphere of this place is very lively, welcoming and fun. The drinks are phenomenal, many to choose from, the presentation of the drinks is very refreshing we usually get the Pitcher of flavored Margaritas, excellent taste smooth, yet they do "hit ya just right"! speaking of presentation; their food plates are awesome, their menu is quite extensive, and we have never been disappointed with the portions, taste and quality of the food. Their prices are very reasonable. They have daily Lunch Specials, Drink Specials. and on occasion get a few "free" house shots of Tequila. This is a great place to have a Birthday dinner, and can seat large groups we have seen. I Highly recommend checking this place out, you will not be disappointed ! It took us only the first time of their welcoming friendly and attentive service that we are now regulars and they know us by name and we have our favorite booth, and last nite Ricardo even already had our Pitcher of Margarita prepared Look at the presentation alone of this refreshing Pitcher [pic} To the Staff at Cowboy,, you guys "Rock It"...
