14th Street Tavern — Restaurant in Des Moines

This place is fine for drinks but in my experiences with food, I couldn't be more disappointed. I've gone twice on Tuesday for there tacos special (one time around 7 and the other time around 8ish) first time the bartender at the time said she could only do fried food and that she had turned all the ovens off (she was waiting for another bartender to release her who was late) we stayed drank our drinks and then the second bartender come in and makes food for another patron. So we ask if we could do the tacos 🌮 she was so sweet and kind and said ya whatever you want on the menu. Second time it was around 8ish and asked for tacos and the bartender this time said the kitchen was closed (didn't even bother to say she could do fried food). I then asked what time the kitchen closes 🤔 she said 8pm but it just depends on the bartender 😬🙄🤯 um okay, I guess bartenders there don't like tips on food orders or just too lazy to do the kitchen. Will NOT be going back for food. Possibly drinks as well as it's a bit out of the way and both times were because I could get something to eat as well. Any who, I guess just take your chance and you get a bartender that will make you food. But for me...

This is a hidden little gem of a pub!

We have been here two times so far and we will definitely be back! It is a smaller bar with a pool table area and old town ambiance. What makes this bar amazing is the great drink prices, food and service! If you are looking for a cheap night out then check them out.

Appetizers are all around $5 and drinks are around $2 with daily specials. We love all of their appetizers and the burgers rock as well! $4.50 for a loaded cheeseburger and $2 more will get you a side of fries. You can't get this great food or price at a drive through. Be sure to try the fried cauliflower, cheese balls, burgers and garlic cheese bread!

I love this bar. I have been to this one more than any other. I’m not even from the east side!!! 😆 I love the atmosphere it’s just “dive-y” enough but not to where you don’t feel comfortable there. Even someone such as myself (being a small female) feels safe enough. I haven’t been served by a bartender who’s worked there over all these years that wasn’t great at what they do. They have decent/good food. They have karaoke nights, slot style games, arcade games, darts, and a pool table. Also, have a “jukebox” however not many of the songs are free (but the machine can be accessed by touchscreen or an app that allows you to add credits with your debit card which is nifty).
