Great trail for bike riding with the following caveat. The Hialeah to Smithfield section (see attached photo) is NOT easy. We stopped at the Visitor Center to get this map/guidebook and get a recommendation on which section we could bike with the kids... Disregard what this map tells you regarding the rating and the elevation delta (at least for this section). The elevation delta must be only the difference between the start and end points, disregarding any gain/loss between these points (see google maps screenshot). There are two very large descents/climbs that required some/all of us to walk our bikes down/up. The gravel on much of this section was mostly larger which posed an additional challenge for a hybrid bike rider and was still challenging on a MTB. Based on this, it makes me question the legitimacy of the other ratings...
From Smithfield, heading north to Riverview, was very flat. The gravel was much smaller and smoother with some grassy sections. The parking lot at Riverview was rather small.
The parking was free at Hialeah and there was a decent amount of it. Smithfield parking is fee based. Parking at Riverview is free, but it is...
Read moreMost of the reviews here started at the south end and (apparently) made no attempt to traverse the entire trail. If you start from the north end ( Milford Beach) after a few miles you will cross a bridge and discover a part of the trail that Bikes are not allowed, and for good reason - there are several steep stairways. Your only choice at that point is to turn around and find an exit on the nearby highway or carry your bike. If that were the only spot along the trail this happens ( the trail becoming unrideable) I could just write it off as something that makes the trail less fun, but a few miles further down the trail it...
Read moreWent as a solo hiker and it was a bit sketch to do alone, but I saw a lot of families and bigger groups which I would recommend for this. It has an actual trail that winds through tree lined areas and the water. There were people kayaking and fishing in the water, a good amount of others on the trail and was really quite relaxing if you’re looking for a nice quiet escape. Plenty of parking options and different start points as well. Really close to the Delaware Water Gap Area. Where I started there were restrooms, plenty of parking and a boat...
