Went to place based on a co-worker’s recommendations. Granted, we are showing up off season (winter), which would make you think the management would care more about making it a good experience in this intimate space. Nope. While, this looked like the German version of the Rosebud Motel from Schitt’s Creek, it lacked the eccentric quirkiness and charm. The lone staff member looked like she was put out to be helping our very large party of 3 guests, one of which was our driver and just wanted a sample. “Wine tasting” is probably a loose phrase in this area since she literally wanted us to throw back our sample like a shot at the bar. Since she refused to let our friend and driver carry her sample glass (which is honestly a cordial glass and not really a wine tester) up the 10 steps to sit up top to enjoy the views. Claiming that the glass was expensive and too many guests break them (the zero other people that were there). We also wanted to open a tab to possibly get a bottle on our way out. We were informed bar tabs were impossible since she was way too busy to handle the 0 guests and the 3 of us. So we took our two glasses and our driver who chugged back her sample since the glass can’t move 3 feet from the bar area or disaster would ensue. Our experience was further brightened by this enchanting person, when she decided that she was going to mop their patio area with industrial grade floor cleaner around us. Thus, our Misty Miener’s subtle flavor and complexity was lost in a sea of headache inducing ammonia and chemical cleaner. Let’s just say we left without buying any bottles and hoping we get the smell of cleaner out of our nose. Maybe the place is better in spring? Maybe the lady was having a bad day? Maybe they should get more portable drinkware and actually allow customers to truly sample the wine? Disappointing and my co-worker now...
Read moreMagical place! You can walk around with your drink in one hand and pet the free roaming horses with the other. They had live music the Saturday we went down. As soon as the folk singer began singing, the horses came trotting over to listen. They grazed around the gazebo as the folk singer sang songs from Jewel to Dolly Parton. It was magical. There are beautiful seating options if you want a little more seclusion. If you cross the bridge over the duck pond, you will find a picnic table under a willow tree. The branches offer some privacy but you can still hear the music and watch the horses. Or, you could walk around to the back of the pond and sit in the swing that is tied to the willow tree branches. The branches offer privacy as you swing. Right next to the swing are more wild horses. Anywhere you go on the property, it is just stunning. The staff is incredibly kind and helpful. I’ve already told all our friends it is a must go. Thank you for sharing this little slice of heaven with us. We...
Read moreMy husband surprised me with an overnight at Guggisberg to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary. It was, hands down, our best date ever! It began with a guided horseback riding adventure that was so beautiful, and Chrissy was such a great guide, loved her energy! We spent the afternoon wine tasting and exploring the vineyards/grounds. We felt so at peace here, and it felt so romantic. The evening brought live music from Songbird Ohio, which was an added treat. She is pure talent, and performs here often. The horses are free range and the most docile horses I've ever been around, it was so therapeutic loving on them and connecting with nature. Guggisberg is family owned, and we felt so welcomed by several family members during our stay. Our room was a king suite, super clean, and very comfortable. We made beautiful memories and plan on returning! Our favorite wine was the white Catawba, which featured one of my favorite horses on it's...
