AMISH COUNTRY RIDING STABLES — Local services in Dover

The horseback riding experience was phenomenal. Great for beginners and you can tell the horses are very well taken care of. Word of advice, though: schedule the appointments by what time you want people to arrive. We had a 1:00 appointment and arrived at 12:55, to which we were not greeted due to only one person being in the office (can’t fault them for this, staffing is rough everywhere) however, once we were greeted, we had to wait a few more minutes to get the paperwork, then weren’t given a pen to fill out the paperwork so had to wait again. Then once paperwork was almost completed (not quite) I was rushed to give the paperwork back and told we were late for our 1:00 appointment time, and she told our guide that we “just got there” at 1:09. Not true. Upon our arrival, we heard them talking about us being late over the speaker. If we were late, how did we hear this? Lol. We were there when we were told. Don’t place blame where it isn’t due. If we were told to arrive a whole 30 minutes early, we would’ve been there. Once these kinks are worked out it could definitely be a 5 star experience, but it started out very poor. But thank you to our amazing guide (I’m so sorry I can’t remember your name!) you were awesome...

The advertised 1 hour ride was only 30 minutes. We had to wait on two other riders (not with our group) before we were allowed to go to the stables, so we didn’t arrive until exactly 10am. Then it was another 10 minutes of instruction and stirrup adjustments before we were on the trail. The ride was absolutely beautiful. However, as we arrived back at the stables, I looked at me watch and it was 10:40!!!!! We dismounted just as the Inn messaged to the guide that the 11:00 guests were ready to come up to the stables. I made the mistake of only having a $20 bill in my pocket for gratuity. I shouldn’t have given any tip. At $60/person I should have had a full hour...

It would have been perfect, if it were not for the woman at the front desk. She was very nasty, and yelled at me like I was a 2 year old all because 2 members of our group cancelled at the last minute. When i tried to apologize she snapped at me saying " You should've called as soon as you knew. Do you know how many people I had to turn away?!!" I felt very humiliated in front of my 9 year old son. At least the guide was amazing, and the scenery was beautiful. Shame I will...
