Interesting playground that is a little tricky to maneuver to. If you follow Google's directions and enter the playground by way of the park entrance and soccer fields, it can be hard to figure out exactly where the playground is.
If you are coming with toddlers or smaller kids, bring trikes or a wagon to help them on their way. It's a bit of a hike from the parking lot to the playground (and if your kid/s need to use the restroom while playing, it's that same hike back to the parking lot).
But, once at the playground, it's a pretty neat space. This playground is outfitted with equipment from KOMPAN, a company that makes excellent climbing and free play equipment. You won't find a lot of very traditional playground pieces on a KOMPAN playground, but you will find a lot of fun.
This playground does not offer a lot of share, so come prepared for sun between May and September.
There are a couple pieces of equipment that are toddler friendly, but this is mostly a five and...
Read moreThis park has a fantastic playground. You should know, though, that the geography is... complicated. The parking lot is behind Sherwood Githens, with a driveway off Fearrington. The actual playground, though, is 1/5 of a mile down a paved path, right on the edge of Old Chapel Hill Rd. A fifth of a mile--1,200 feet--is nothing for a jogger, but to anyone with small children it's an odyssey. ("Pack water. Pack food. Hire a sherpa. And maybe a camel. Leave your affairs in order.") Oh, did I mention the restrooms are back at the parking lot? ("Daddy, I need to go potty!" "Then... heaven help us all, my daughter. Heaven help us all.") It would make much more sense to park in the lot of the Methodist church across Old Chapel Hill, but I'm not sure how they feel about this, and it's a very busy street to cross with young ones. ON THE OTHER HAND, once they get to biking age, this makes for a great (if actually rather short) bike trail with a rewarding...
Read moreI go to this park occasionally for my adult soccer league. The turf field is not the best and there's not much protection from keeping the ball on the field. However, there's good parking and if you need to play somewhere this is a good spot. There's also a b-ball court which looks in...
