Bull City Bake Shop — Restaurant in Durham

Because my family has wildly different tastes in cakes and desserts, we usually get a selection of cupcakes for birthday celebrations. I found Bull City Bake Shop through Google Maps and was able to place an order through their website in the early morning to be picked up half an hour after they opened.

The cupcakes were ready for us when we got there and my husband noticed some banana puddings in the display case. My family enjoyed every single cupcake flavor and my dad was very impressed with the banana pudding and its made-from-scratch flavors. HIGHLY recommended.

We will be coming back.

ETA: apparently I cannot leave a second review, so I will state here that I had another fabulous experience with Bull City Bake Shop. I needed to order cupcakes for a baby shower with a punk rock theme, and going in had the idea of basic cupcakes with black icing and such. The bakers explained what a bad idea black icing can be, as it leaves stains on the teeth for days, and worked with me to add decorations that blended with the theme (see photo). The cake was beautifully decorated and exactly what we envisioned, and the cupcakes were a perfect touch — each one was like a little work of art. The flavors were incredible, and you could truly taste the quality and love put into every bite.

Today was my first visit to this bakery. I walked in looking for a chocolate cake last minute, with a picture in hand from another review (the Black Wall Street chocolate cake). They did not have one ready to go, but had the supplies on hand to put one together for me within a few hours. It was beautiful, and it was delicious! Seriously, so good.

I also got a strawberry cupcake that I ate right away that’s probably the best I’ve had - you could tell it had real strawberries in it! The staff and owner were so kind and the cakes were delicious. I’m definitely coming back another time and sharing with my friends! They deserve all the business!

ETA 8/1/24: the chocolate cake was even better today than yesterday! Just wow....
