We purchased two sets of "antique" handcuffs today from a vendor that frequently sets up outside on the weekends. He normally specializes in signs amongst other things. We have purchased from this individual before and always had pleasant transactions from him. However, today we feel he knowingly sold us two pairs of reproduction handcuffs. We should have realized what he was doing when he briefly hesitated after we asked if he knew the history of the pieces and where he had purchased them from (estate sale, private collector, etc). These were very well produced reproductions. Next time we will research better before making such purchases again, but having dealt with this vendor in the past, we had hoped he was an honest individual. Lesson learned. We love Renningers and visit whenever possible, but were severely disappointed by this particular vendor and we hope visitors will keep this in mind when browsing his tables...
Read moreIt's as if time stood still when you walk inside. The same tired merchandise with faded price tags or dealers who really don't want to sell what they have. The place is like a museum. Many times I've seen booth's unattended that look more like they are being used for storage rather than for sale purposes. The place is too dark and seems outright depressing. I hope somehow someone comes up with some new ideas as I think this place is heading for it's demise sooner rather than later. Being open on Saturdays would be a good first step but some dealers would probably have a kiniption if they had to change their 20 year routine. I say it's time for this place to enter the 21st.century. After all we are all ready into it for 20 years now! I will say that there are a dozen or so fine dealers who truly want to make money and realize that prices are not what they were 5,10, or...
Read moreI made a special trip here on a Sunday because it is the only day it is open. I was pretty disappointed. It was interesting walking around, but the prices are very high and many booths look trashy. I found something I was interested in, asked the price, and was quote an extremely high price of 5 times what they go for. The vendor got insulted and told me that he doesn't give stuff away. I stopped looking at his booth because I am sure it was all overpriced, the reason there is stuff all over and unorganized, and dirty. That is the vibe at this place. Usually antique markets are on the high side, but this place feels more like a flea market, except the prices. Many of the vendor stands really need to be cleaned up so it doesn't look so junky. I should have just spent my time at the antique malls in the area. Much...
