This review is mostly about the GATED SKATE PARK there @ Kennedy Park. It's across from Granite Hills high school. It's a great skate park for scooter riding. Just to name a couple or so of what they have is: a spine, coping, a pyramid & a waterfall. Your kid will know what those are if they like to scooter a lot. You MUST (REQUIRED) to wear protective padding for your knees, elbows & a helmet just to ride in the skate park. I saw an older kid break his front teeth there. Scared me so we got a mouth guard to protect/cover lips & teeth just to be even more safe. I reccomend a mouth gaurd because who doesn't want PEACE OF MIND or to deal w/ the dentist etc. Sometimes it might NOT look like anyone is there in the tiny office where you enter to get into the skatepark but there is ALWAYS a YMCA person inside & ready to come out & hold your membership card while you are inside using the skate park. They return it back to you when you want to leave. The cost is only $5 for the year & sign up for this skate park membership is done in person at the Rec center there in the same park. You'll needa parent to sign & give permission type stuff if your considered a KID that wants to use the skate park. They take a picture of you right there & print out a laminated card w/ your picture & hand it over to you so you can use it the same day @ the skate park. If you loose your card, you'll need to pay another $5 for a replacement. We haven't lost ours so I'm NOT sure if they need to retake your picture again for the replacement card. At the skate park you can find a print out for their current available times/days for scooter riding times etc. Bikes & skateboarders have different time slots. Or you can find it online under the Kennedy Rec Center Skate Park. It's a great place to have your kids at on a Friday night (currently 6-9pm). Nice place to take them instead of your kid(s) being bored, bugging you or siblings at home, needing some exercise or doing anything else you dont want your kids doing. They also provide different levels of classes for scooter, bike & skate boarding. Monday, tomorrow the 16th of Sept. 2019 is the day you are able to register for classes. It's around $40 or so depending if you're a resident or outside of that area. The Rec center has lots of activities to choose from too. Just look up the website "Kennedy Park Rec Center". The surrounding area of the park holds orginized sports practice/games & a lot of loud group gatherings playing their own sports, having picnics, having parties & watching their kids play @ the playground. I've seen lots of jumpers for birthday parties so I'm assuming you need to maybe get permission or something(I'm NOT sure). I do NOT have experience of having a party or needing a jumper so check it out for yourself online or in person @ the Rec Center. Great place to walk around for exercise too. Bathrooms are open at the Rec center while the Rec Center is open only. The other public bathrooms seem to be open when the Rec center bathrooms are closed. So what I'm trying to say is, that it's a very pleasant park to...
Read moreLove to take the dogs here. They always have a great time. People are friendly. Park is clean and well lit. Has a little playground, baseball field, soccer field, tennis courts and skate park. Love watching the skaters while walking the dogs. Some brave kiddos doing tricks in there. Side walk through out park to walk or bike on. Lots of parking.
It will get crazy busy around 2pm or 3pm as Granite Hills H.S let's out around that time. Just be prepared for a little bit of cluster and loads of people.
I have very odd hours but, have been fortunate to not encounter any danger (knock on wood). *NOT THAT I'M SUGGESTING ANYONE GO WALK THIS PARK AFTER HOURS!!! It's just peace of mind being able to go somewhere; walk. After the walk make it home safe and sound.
P.S Sometimes they even leave their big baseball field lights on till late.
Who ever does this THANK YOU I REALLY REALLY REALLY...
Read moreThis is my son's favorite park to go to in the East County. It's a pretty clean park, with the recreation center located on the property this park gets a lot of maintenance. There isn't a huge homeless problem in this park either unlike other parks in the area.
The park features a sports field, lighted ball diamond, a colorful playground, tons of walkways for cycling, walking and jogging and picnicking areas. The park is also home to the annual Fourth of July picnic and fireworks display. Next to the park is the Kennedy skateboard park which caters to skateboards, in-line skates, scooters...
