The park had its formal dedication in early August 2022 with most of the park amenities open by this time. Orono Park has turned out as a key signature park for the Elk River community becoming one of the most active parks in the city's park system.
The playground continues to be a popular attraction and an adjacent new splash pad opened in mid-July 2022. The splash pad is in a perfect loaction overlooking the expanded sandy beach and Lake Orono. Its a great addition to the park during the summer months. The seasonal restroom facility with four individual family restrooms can be used as a changing area for families with young children. It's in a perfect location right next to the splash pad and two sand volleyball courts with lighting, so that the courts can be used during the fall season. Read moreThe beach is long, with plenty of space, and very clean. The bathrooms were immaculate. The park has everything you could possibly ask for! I only took one star away because there is a need for more shade options on the beach. Preferably more trees, but perhaps more table areas with cover overhead until the trees are mature. Also, we wish there was a walking path that went a bit further, or some option for a nice stroll around the lake. However, if you want to have a fun day with the family - this is your park!!! I recommend a weekday visit though, be warned that weekends here...

Weather on my own walks, enjoying the beach or taking the dogs for a walk or etc. The investment the city has made in the park has been well worth it. The picnic area, splash park, skatepark and restrooms are well kept for the traffic. The beach can get a little weedy along the shore and I saw they have a cleanup truck I saw brushing the beach clean one morning. A great way to keep up a worthwhile investment!
