You know how you find a place, by happenstance because you are in a particular area, and then you have an amazing experience, both with food and atmosphere and service and you wonder why you hadn't found it sooner? Well, that happened to my husband and I this weekend.
Now truth be told, we don't get to Elk River too often from our home in Linwood, MN, but this past weekend we did.
The first thing you notice when you find this gem, is the great parking, and right by a gas station, how convenient is that!, When you walk in you immediately feel welcome, the decor is like an antique store but tastefully done, not cluttered. Check out the chalk artwork as well, amazing.
We sat at a small booth in the restaurant and ordered a bloody. YES, not only do they do creative and amazing food, but they serve alcohol, and not just your every day stuff either. I can't wait to go back and try their signature cocktails during dinner. I am for sure going to try the Beet Margarita!.
I had the poutine scramble, which was delightful, and you MUST get the homemade green chili salsa with it. It's not often you find great homemade chili sauce this far north LOL!
The potatoes were perfectly done and the combo of meats in mine worked in concert with one another, with a delicate layer of kale, and a touch of sweetness, from what I am not sure, but it worked. My husband had a sausage chicken gravy bowl., which he devoured in about 15 minutes.
I'm telling you folks, if you are looing for something different, with a great family friendly atmosphere, good music, great service and OUTSTANDING food swing by.
We're going to head back soon for dinner since our stop was in the morning during the...
Read moreThis is the type of place that feels like home. The food was amazing, and I’ll get back to that, but it’s most important that I first emphasize the people here: without knowing any of them personally, it’s clear they are a family and they treat you like you are a friend of theirs over for lunch. There was a previous employee eating at the bar who was greeted with joy by the dishwasher who came out to see them. That sort of camaraderie is rare. The bartender and (who I assume to be the manager) were also so friendly with each other and with the cooks and with me it was obvious that they were all happy to be here, and coming from many years working in restaurants and bars, I know that’s not always the case. Most importantly is how they treated me as a guest (the word guest feels right here, whereas usually I feel like a customer). This place has the best mid-western, home-cooked, warm-hearted vibes I’ve felt at any restaurant in Minnesota for quite some time. The drinks were ample and original, the food fresh and delicious, both made with quality ingredients. I’m from the cities and am out here for work today, and I swear I could not have found a better place to stop. Nestled in a strip-mall-like structure hides this treasure of an establishment. If you are considering...
Read moreWe went to Tipsy Chicken tonight with a bar reservation. The aesthetic was awesome! So excited to try the menu but then…we didn’t see anyone for 20 minutes. I went to the bar and asked if we order there because nobody had been to our table. We did not get an apology just a laugh about how the bartender missed us because he was making so many other drinks. I watched people get sat and served an immediately with friendly service and I was envious. Finally the hostess came and took our order. When the food came it was awesome. So good! Then service switched back to the bartender and he came over with no apology for his lack of attentiveness. Said he was just “checking in” when we had empty glassware everywhere, clearly hoping for refills, we ordered refills and he didn’t take our empties. We ordered dessert and watched him hang out with other servers at the bar for 15 min before the chocolate moose arrived. I wish that the service matched the quality of the food. I don’t think that I personally will be returning even though I would like to for the food. I also won’t recommend that anyone I know go there. Maybe takeout is...
