This is a place I go fishing out of at least 12 to 15 times a year. From the knowledgeable staff answering weather and gear questions to the great captain, Emeryville is great. I grew up in southern California and fished out of San Diego my whole life so I know quality crews when I see them. The fleet are older and smaller than I'm used to but the crews are great. And let's face it, having a great crew makes or breaks a fishing trip. I normally bring a rookie with me, and they jump right in to help the whole day. You definitely feel like family here. I would recommend Jon of the Sea wolf for farrelon islands fishing, or his brother Jay of the new huck fin for inside bay fishing for striper, halibut and white sea bass. These 2 brothers are amazing

Kyle and his crew put on a outstanding trip. We went to the Farallon Islands and caught monster rock cod. Our 3 sack limits equaled over 40lbs of fillets. On the way out they drop the crab nets and scoop them up on the way in. Kyle and his crew took care of everyone on the boat seamlessly. His deckhand worked fast and efficient. A large boat where 30 people was still roomy. These guys are true professionals and I will be going again before crab season is over. Take advantage of the oceans bounty and book a trip. Memories to last a lifetime!!!

Captain Jay and Mate Jake are built different. They knows the waters tried and true. Even though I signed up for the halibut trip, we went for some lingcod and rock bass in the morning because Captain Jay understood the halibut bite was not going to happen. The fishing was good all day and we kept fishing well past the allocated time so make sure to set aside plenty of time if you plan to fish on New Huck. The experience is amazing and the wealth of knowledge the crew has is impeccable.

Don't go to KingFish!!! [RENT ROD SCAM] I called their landing service before making reservation and was told the rod rental is included in the fee. But when I got there, they said it's not included and I have to pay extra to rent rods (or I go on the trip without rods). [TACKLE PURCHASE SCAM] I purchased the tackle set for the fishing trip. But they refused to give me the tackle set and said they need it for the next trip. It's "BUY tackle" instead of "RENT tackle", and they SHOULD give me what I bought. [LOW QUALITY TACKLE] I thought their trolling halibut tackle set is the professional ones with fish flashes and other components, and that's why I purchased it when making reservation. But it turned out to be just a 16oz sinker with a cheap livebait rig, and they use frozen anchovy on the livebait rig. No wonder they catch less fish than other charters. Also I never saw my "Burlap Sack" which is supposed to be in the tackle set I purchased. [FAKE FISH REPORT] I was on the trip of Mar/26 so I know we only got 2 keeper halibuts, and 2 non-keepers that we released. But the fish report on the website saying we got 3 keepers. This is fake and who knows if their other reports are correct?? [BAD ATTITUDE] When I tried to ask them for the tackle set, they in turn blamed me for tangling up with other anglers and they have to cut/remake my rigs many times. This is not true. They never needed to replace my rigs, let alone the sinkers. When I corrected them, they simply ignored me and refused to talk any more.

UPD: For the record, they never reached out to me to address the issue or propose a solution, even though you can see their response seem to...

Will never go fishing on the C-Gull2 or any Emeryville fleet. I’ve been on charters spanning 50 years. All you have to do is look at the fleet totals for July 8. The C-gull had 5 or 6 scratchy fish while the rest of the fleet enjoyed limits or near limits of Salmon. How is that possible? The other boats were all hovering together catching fish while the C-Gull2 fished a great distance apart from the rest of the fleet and we spent 8-9 hrs on the water staring at our rods in disbelief. Sorry, cannot simply blame it on a bad fishing day. It was a good fishing day for all the other boats because we could see them fishing together. But the Skipper of the c-Gull decided to venture in non- productive areas for hours while it’s customers just sat around staring at their rod tips.. Serious money is spent. To top it all off the deck hand had a bad attitude and wouldn’t let customers handle their rods first. Never been on a boat where the deckhand barked out orders to leave the rods in their holders when a fish was hooked. Pretty miserable day. Normally don’t leave a bad comment but we expected more after spending a lot of money on out of state travel, hotels, fishing experience, rod rentals, licenses and food. Won’t be making that...

After extensive research on the best charter service in the area, I decided to schedule a charter for my mother's birthday in October. Being an experienced fisherwoman, she had partaken in charters before but this was my first time. When booking the charter, I made sure to book on a day which allowed us to fish for Rockfish. This was something my mother VERY much was looking forward to as it's her favorite fish. The man on the phone assured me that the potluck charter would definitely include Rockfish....but that didn't happen. Once on board we were told that the charter would NOT include Rockfish and my mother, myself and several other patrons were highly disappointed. No explanation given. Matter of fact, the other patrons frequently fought up their disappointment throughout the trip. The boat staff were incredibly nice and very helpful so that definitely needs to be said, but I was pretty angry about paying that much money to not receive what I paid for and because of that will use another company...
