The trail at Egan Field in Essex Fells is hard to find, probably because residents prefer that it remains low use compared to other parks in the area. The trail entrance is in the far corner of the parking lot after traversing the driveway past the lacrosse and soccer fields and the small building and basketball court. Walk through the trees and there is a dirt and rock road that loops around (about 1 mile) the middle forest area. There are several trails through the forest as well that end up back on the ring road. Dog friendly folks abound and it is usually quite peaceful (there are benches scattered on the ring road for resting). Read moreAwesome place! Amazing tree canopy, great place to bring your dog for a long walk. There is a creek there too and several trails that criss cross the park. It's not paved so it might get muddy after a rain. Lots of dog lovers and it's great to learn about other dogs and/of get into spontaneous conversations with other pet owners and share experiences.
