Do NOT miss this incredible history museum, housed in what was the Laundryworks of Everglades City in its early years, when the town was in large part a company town for the workers building the the Tamiami trail in the 1920s. This free museum will give you great insight into how Florida was built, the man whom Collier county was named after, and the amazing regional history of the Everglades area, Everglades City, and Collier's relations with local Native Americans (Seminoles). They have excellent historical talks every third Thursday, and the docent I spoke with is a wealth of information on Everglades history and willing to share it. The museum tells its story through photos, artifacts, informational sign boards, and video. There is also a fun, secret & hidden challenge throughout the museum for children to find as they look at the various exhibits (ask at the entrance)! If you enjoy history, give yourself at least 2 hours to go through this museum. Even if you think history isn't your cup of tea, you will enjoy the great stories the museum tells and come away understanding better all that you see in the Everglades, Everglades City, Southwest Florida and more (for example, who...

Beautifully nestled into what's once was an old laundromat the museum of Everglades depicts life from the Everglades City. Local full court is while represented in a mix with Seminole artifacts in art. There is also great tribute to Collier and the construction of the tamiami Trail. This museum is a must-stop if it never goes sitting and free makes it even a bigger plus. The staff there were wonderful and the graciously showed our group around when I visited. I would definitely recommend stopping through here and to learn about local history. The museum is definitely...

Not knowing what to expect at such a small venue, we were very surprised at how much history is packed into this place. The gentleman at the front desk was very informative and seemed to really want to answer any and all our questions. They seem to have rotating exhibits up front. During our visit, it was an everglades Python invasion exhibit. It features a local Python hunter, Wildman Dusty, who also has a pizza restaurant in town. Everywhere else is everything everglades. Including movies filmed in the glades. We enjoyed our visit and it's free. Yet they do have a...

A small but very impressive display of the history of the Everglades area and the building where this museum is located. The revolving display at the time of our visit was the invasive python that number in the 100's of thousands. The gentleman at the desk was very knowledgeable and talked to us at length about the pythons in Florida and the constant effort by the python hunters to track and eliminate this invasive spiece that decimates native wildlife all over Florida.

What a really neat place to visit! We got to visit with my cousin that lives in the area and really learned a lot! The gentleman at the front was so nice and helpful! There is so much that we learned about the area and next time we will spend a little more time so we can read more of the stuff. Would highly recommend while visiting the area, it is truly worth your time and you will learn so much!
