Do NOT miss this incredible history museum, housed in what was the Laundryworks of Everglades City in its early years, when the town was in large part a company town for the workers building the the Tamiami trail in the 1920s. This free museum will give you great insight into how Florida was built, the man whom Collier county was named after, and the amazing regional history of the Everglades area, Everglades City, and Collier's relations with local Native Americans (Seminoles). They have excellent historical talks every third Thursday, and the docent I spoke with is a wealth of information on Everglades history and willing to share it. The museum tells its story through photos, artifacts, informational sign boards, and video. There is also a fun, secret & hidden challenge throughout the museum for children to find as they look at the various exhibits (ask at the entrance)! If you enjoy history, give yourself at least 2 hours to go through this museum. Even if you think history isn't your cup of tea, you will enjoy the great stories the museum tells and come away understanding better all that you see in the Everglades, Everglades City, Southwest Florida and more (for example, who...

The gentleman at the front desk was very informative and seemed to really want to answer any and all our questions. They seem to have rotating exhibits up front. During our visit, it was an everglades Python invasion exhibit. It features a local Python hunter, Wildman Dusty, who also has a pizza restaurant in town. Everywhere else is everything everglades. Including movies filmed in the glades. We enjoyed our visit and it's free. Yet they do have a...
