It's a really nice museum, it's located inside of the army base, so you need to head to the visitors center if you have no military ID. In the visitor center you'll undergo a background check and someone will come to move you to the museum There is a parking lot for about 20 cars or do, it's limited to 30 minutes, but if you go to the museum, they are ok with you leaving your car for longer
The driver may give you a little tour around the base, so you can see rows of active military airplanes (no pictures allowed though) - the base itself is like a little enclosed city
The museum has multiple big airplanes on show outside and lots and lots of history inside the building - pictures allowed and encouraged! They have a really nice engine room and even a real bomber simulator (you can enter it, but it's not possible to actually turn it on) There is a lot of history dating all the way back to the base creation, through WW2 and Vietnam all the way to 2018 (as of writing)
The museum gives a very different vibe thanks to being inside of the US Air Force...
Read moreGreat place for vintage airplane buffs. The museum itself is inside Travis AFB (an active air force base). To get to the museum, you have to stop at the visitor's center and provide your name, address and SSN (yes, your SSN...) Once admitted, a van/truck will come and pick you up, driving you through the base to the museum.
The museum features an indoor display of airplane history, including airplane systems, cockpit, bomb shells, airplane guns, engines of all types, aircraft replicas, and a few complete vintage aircraft. History buffs will spend quite some time reading the displays and appreciating the historic details behind the artifacts.
The "plane lot" outside is a blast, and has a number of aircraft most of us will immediately recognize, such a a B-52 bomber, a B-17 bomber, helicopters, and many others.
Overall, a good place to bring the kids or just bring the kid in you. Call in advance for times and...

Guess what?? Show up today and was denied access and to phone another number and possibly wait a few weeks for clearance. Here's some advice that you probably won't take, but maybe you all should be a bit more consistent as to the information that you're giving people, especially since it was supposed to be a highlight of my...
