I WAS a frequent visitor, however, after the treatment I have received from the staff members, on multiple occasions, but especially today’s visit, I’ll never return.
I’ll never complain about an employee doing their job and preventing shop lifting. They have been respectful on a few occasions, however, normally make me feel like I’m committing a crime at self check out. There are no other options for check out, however, they will sometimes take items out of your hands and begin scanning them for you.
Today was the worst experience I’ve ever had in any retail establishment EVER. My significant other and I had shared a cart, but were splitting items and cashed out separately. I was splitting my payment between cash and card, so we had to use specific cash registers. After my partner payed for her few items, I scanned mine, while the employee stood directly over my shoulder breathing on me, then went to pay. I was unaware that I could use a whole stack of cash, to which the employee rudely told me I could, with her hand over the machine waiting for the receipt to print. She stood in my way until I told her I had to finish my payment on a card. She retrieved my receipt from the machine after it jammed, and insisted on checking it. I asked if she wanted to look at my partners receipt, definitely with a rude tone at this point, but only because we were sharing a cart. This employee ignored me, then told me two of them large items weren’t on my receipt. They were on my partners, and I had been offering the receipt. It’s not “just their job.” I am a young woman who works in the service industry and I WOULD NEVER behave like that or treat a customer in that manner. To not even apologize and say it’s just your job to is truly sad.
My friend who checked out multiple lanes over, also felt that the employees were being worse to her today than usual, so it was not just one employee.
I’ve spent over $100 here in just the past two days, however, you lost mine, and multiple of my loved one’s...
Read moreI've been a loyal customer for years, visiting dozens of times each year. I've seen prices edging up. Today took me over the edge. Prices have doubled! This is longer a THRIFT shop. It is exploiting its branded type business. $20 is the standard price for ladies USED pants. Walmart branded men's shirt that is sold in Walmart NEW for $19.99, is on the rack and priced USED at Valley for $19.99. (We checked online to verify.) Small vases with faded flowers for $10-20. Women 2-piece wardrobe set, USED, for $52. I should have taken photos of these samples, to offer proof. Regretfully ,I did not. But I may consider this. I spoke today with the manager "Christina" who took the position of "this the owner's decision." Many of the employees shared with me that this is a growing concern voiced by customers. I don't want to hear "It's the economy." They get their "donations (for vets)" at no cost. They hire many minorities at low wages, many of which do not speak English. In fact employees are NOT even entitled to a discount unless the item is under $5. Even their shoppers bags are so low cost, they rip open, with clothes falling out after an hour. No, its not the economy.. Their prices are not contingent on the usual "cost of goods" most businesses absorb. They are (essentially) recession proof. IN FACT, during hard fiscal times this is where many consumers go to stretch their budget... but not anymore. Valley Thrift shop owner, you are exploitng your employees, you are exploiting many customers' loyalty, and you are eplooitng the Latino community that work and shop there, because they need to. You are exploiting donors that believe the are donating to help veterans. I, for one, choose not to be...
Read moreUsed to love this store. My mom and I would visit almost every weekend for “girl time” as an affordable bonding experience. Although there was some mess and broken items, it used to be that there was always treasures to be found. I even purchased an official American Girl doll for $0.09 and was able to restore it for my friend. However, the days of $0.09 clothing, affordable toys, and cheap decor are now over.
The past year has been awful for Valley Thrift. The store has gotten visibly trashier and the prices are incomparable to what they used to be. Plain T-shirts that used to be only pennies are now $3-9 each. I wouldn’t mind paying a bit more, but this is ridiculous. Books are marketed as being only $0.29 but each individual book is labeled as a higher price so you pay more. Clothing has gotten more expensive. Children’s clothing and toys has also risen astronomically in prices. Small bags of Legos were $11.99 and bags containing about 3 hot wheel cars are now $6. The same hot wheel cars are available at Kroger for $1 each.
I am extremely disappointed and frustrated with the new changes in Valley Thrift. The Valley Thrift store I once blabbed about to my friends and family is now something I would be embarrassed to share with others. The affordable treasures that littered Valley Thrift for most of the store’s existence are now extinct. Words cannot express my extreme disappointment for the store...
