This has to be the cleanest, most well maintained, manicured, park I've ever visited! And it's HUGE! It seems like you could walk forever on the paved pathways... I already found MY favorite spot though, it's a bench overlooking the creek... I can sit and relax with to the sounds of the water as it babbles along over & around the rocks, soothing my frayed nerves. That would be a perfect spot to have a small picnic for one or two, sandwiches & chips or a fast food bag of food! They have an area in the center which has these information posters, showing the different types of plants, birds and such you may see there... I wouldn't be surprised to see deer grazing in the meadow or an occasional bear wandering through! (I saw a HUGE bear paw print in the mud in Jackson Park once, and it's right behind the courthouse downtown!) My dog loves it as well, but BE SURE TO BRING YOUR OWN DOGGIE BAGS, as this is the ONLY park I've ever seen in Hendersonville that doesn't have them. Or if they do I never found them! I subtracted a star for that reason. In this area, parks are more for dogs then for people it seems, which is why they all have the little doggie bag dispensers along with trash cans to put them in. I always see far more DOGS than KIDS in parks here, like 20 to 1! And this park has all the "clean up after your dog" signs, but NO poop bags to do it with, so I feel like there are probably lots of little surprises left by dogs whose owners expected there to be bags but there aren't any, so watch your step! ๐ฎ๐ฉ๐คฌ I really feel like they should have signs that read, "Please clean up after your kids" as well!! ๐ค๐คจ There are covered picnic tables, and pavilions you can rent for parties and such. There are benches along the paved paths to stop for a rest on if you need to. Duck ponds, tiny babbling brooks and a lot of unique plants &v wildflowers growing around and IN the water Overall it is a very nice park. If they add the doggie bag dispensers (or if I find them there!) then I will change my rating from 4 to 5 stars, because it will truly be a 5 Star Park then! So please, give us the ๐โ๐ฆบ๐ฉbaggies!...
ย ย ย Read moreI like this park very much. It's a pleasant and easily accessible place to walk, although I'm not too keen on the dog friendly aspect which inevitably leads to poops along the trailside; I don't care how many signs or plastic bag dispensers you put up. There is a nice variety of large beautiful trees and water features left over from the golf course days that lend themselves very nicely to the ambience. I think this park is the only place in this area where there are cypress trees! We especially enjoy the smaller creek that has recently been rerouted. Whoever was responsible for that as well as the foot bridges at the trail crossings did a downright beautiful job! I must say that the practice of plastering people's names on rocks and benches is a bit much since dogs pee on the rocks and people put their bottoms on the benches. Enough said about that.. I was surprised to find that this park actually has a "ranger", which seems almost comical to me since a person could nearly fling a stone from one end to the other, but large or small, any public space is a challenge to manage. The best things about this park are the flower garden, the playground and the large picnic pavilion which are all very nice. The worst thing is highland lake drive which throws its traffic din across nearly the entire acreage, especially in the winter. The ongoing construction which has caused the road to be temporarily closed is the best thing that could have happened for the park's visitors. Too bad it's not permanent. Having said that, I should like to add that we need more places like this, where people can just tool around and enjoy the outdoors or picnic or woo that special someone.. In my humble opinion the Park at Flat Rock is definitely...
ย ย ย Read moreThe place was easy to find and access. Paths are layered with very fine white gravel which makes them easy to traverse without worrying about falling or twisting an ankle. Bathrooms are accessible and open the entire time the park is and the best part is that it isn't terribly crowded too often. Yes, it's a public park, but many nooks and crannies are a bit more private for when I'd like to get away and journal for a while in the shade. Geese and other wildlife frequent the paths and ponds and there are benches placed in areas for optimal viewing. The park is well maintained and almost always free of litter which is a big pet peeve of mine. It's a wonderful place to take the kids to get energy out on the playground or bike along the paths. One lap I believe is either just shy or just over a mile and there are many intersecting paths to make your journey easier if you're looking for a quick jaunt or jog. People are polite and friendly but generally keep to themselves which is a plus. I highly recommend visiting here to help support the local community and get your family or self off the screen and into the world. 5/5 stars...
