I had no idea there were these grand , sacred beautiful dunes here. I always knew Amelia Island had something magical about it but I came across these by accident looking for a new beach access. I was blown away. Everyone visiting the island should visit ... I stood in awe at the size... They used to have similar ones in North Myrtle Beach in the Ingram dunes behind my mom's house. They also have them in Jensen Beach but this is by far the most amazing.

More like a rolling mountain covered in vegetation than a big barren dune. Awesome it has been preserved, since it is right in the middle of a neighborhood. Interesting historical homes nearby but in disrepair. Definitely worth a trip.

Breath taking when you see it in person. The plaqes are def worth reading. Learned that American Beach was founded for African Americans to enjoy the beach and a resort atmosphere during Jim Crow south and segregation. I didn't know the history of this beach...
