I love history and finally made it to see this place, unfortunately because we got rained out we never made it to the fort. The history displayed in the visitor center however, absolutely disgusted me! 95% or more was nothing but more WOKE propaganda. All I remember seeing here was all of the crimes against people that they could dig up. And only one of those that I remember was against a white man. Everything here was focused on wrongs against blacks, natives and women. It is one thing to not bury the crimes of the past or we cannot learn from those wrongdoings but agendas are very obvious when it's all focused on only one thing. There is a LOT more to our history than finding every past evil you can dig up. I don't remember seeing anything positive about the impact this place had or anything positive about the leadership. The things here were just more Marxist roots that lead people to hate government and authority. Corrupt as governments may be and have always been, when that's the only thing focused on, we end up with the mindsets these younger generations have that burn down cities and their own innocent neighbors livelihoods. I certainly would never bring school children here on...
Read moreThe Fort itself was very good. The staff was very knowledgeable and the demonstrations were fun. I was disappointed to be greeted with literature about slaves, oppression, killing of Indians and also a book with the title insinuating being white makes you racist and we all should stop being white... Which I unfortunately can't control. I'm well aware of the history of the United States and of MN and Ft Snelling and of the Indians and African Americans and now how horrible it is to be white. I think there could have been a better way to display this material and honestly I feel like it promoted hate. Had they been specific books about the history of slavery and Indians at Ft Snelling that would have made since. But the book about whites was just not needed. Besides that, the...
Read moreAs someone who has both military family and indigenous family we were VERY upset. The 'tour guide" only spoke negatively about the solders and said things like "they fell asleep on the job' and they 'stole the land,' they had 'slaves' etc. Thee was NOTHING positive about the bravery of the solders and NO real information about the Fort. In fact i overheard several people after said "i don't get the history of the fort itself?" the military use? etc. SO insulting. The bias of the tour guide needs to be checked! I didn't catch her name but she was a younger girl with...
