A pleasant, inviting visitor center where you can use sparkling clean restrooms, buy cool t-shirts and hats, books, Hiking poles, and learn a bit about the areas geological and cultural histories. Especially moved by the reconciliation circle created for the descendants of the Dakota held captive at the fort; a beautiful tribute that you can actually touch. Read moreThe trails are really nice to walk on and are right next to the Mississippi River. I really like the Thomas C. Savage Visitor Center. There are interpretive exhibits displayed in the Thomas C. Savage Visitor Center. There is a great abundance of history and the resources of the park and the area. Spent an hour in the center before I went on the walk. After coming back from the walk, I went back into the visitor center and looked at the exhibits once more. I will return later on in the Spring. Read moreThis is a wonderful visitors center which I feel is kind of under-appreciated in the Twin Cities! Loved that they openly feature informative exhibits on the horrible Dakota detention camp and the Dakota conflict- important pieces of this park’s history! Love the solar hot water heaters on the roof and native plantings and trails nearby.
