Our group of 8 stopped in, excited to try this winery. We never had been. We were on a wine tour coming from elmaro and heading to bemis bluffs, for our friend’s birthday. Six of us planned to do tastings (one friend is pregnant and one was our driver). There wasn’t another customer in sight, yet the woman behind the bar never looked up from her tablet at first and made us feel like we were interrupting her.
She repeatedly questioned if we were together and how many tastings we wanted even after we clearly said multiple times “six.” She questioned why there was 8 of us. She complained that we made her lose a document she was working on for a picnic, as if we were inconveniencing her, for coming in, to spend money.
While one friend stepped away to the restroom, she said she wouldn’t explain the tasting more than once and said we needed to wait for our friend to come back. She started asking personal questions like how we knew each other, if two of our friends who were in a relationship were siblings. None of which felt friendly, just intrusive.
When I picked up a menu and I flipped to the back, where I noticed there were more tastings on there. But the prices were blocked off. She asked who’s driving? We told her, and asked why. She looked at me and said because I was reading the back of the menu and the prices were blocked off. Implying I must be drunk, to read the menu in such a way. She acted like I was reading the menu upside down or that I was an idiot for looking at the back of the menu. Then she asked “So what are you having?” My friend finally said, “You’re being kind of rude,” and the woman replied, “I was joking. I don’t care if you stay or not.”
At that point, we left without tasting a drop and went to a nearby restaurant for a drink instead. When we mentioned our experience to the waitress there, she nodded and said, “Yeah, I’ve heard, you have to catch her on a good day.”
Easily the most unwelcoming winery experience...
Read moreGoing middle road here as I don't want to totally ruin their ratings based on what happened to us. Drove over an hour to get there. Only to find a sign on Their door saying food wasn't being served due to staff shortage. Please understand that we don't do wineries without having a nibble on something as we drink. Just can't do that. So on another day please give it a try. However though their wine may be wonderful just based on what I saw...was not impressed with their environment...we turned around and left. There were plenty of folks bellied up to the bar drinking wine. I didn't take a photo inside though now I wish I would have. My suggestion is to go and try it for yourself... if you need to eat when drinking like I do, call ahead and ask, I guess. This is, of course just my opinion. You may love the place...but we just moved on. So don't totally discount it based on...
Read moreWas a couple years ago but still sticks in my mind as one of the worst places we've ever been to. Took my mother with reasonable expectation of tasting some wine and looking to buy a bottle of two. Even though we had no real problems with the logistics of the old building they couldn't have been less accommodating. Apparently, because my mother was in a WHEELCHAIR we were made to feel very unwelcome from the very beginning. Got terrible service, sideways glances and backhanded comments throughout and FORCED to use a very cramped and awkward exit through the kitchen on the way out. Was there a few few times without Mom and the person actually serving the wine can actually be great but it's the people in charge that make me wonder why this place is even open. Maybe things have changed in a couple years but it certainly wouldn't be worth our time to ever go back...
