We’ve visited twice now, and both times it felt like we had crashed a party we weren’t invited to - it has a very “locals only” kind of vibe. The food was inconsistent, and the service was slow (but I don’t blame the server - she seemed to be working by herself). Thus, we won’t drive the 30 minutes to return, as feeling like an inconvenience as a patron is not something I wish to repeat again.
When another restaurant was closed due to the cold weather, we found ourselves nearby and thought we’d stop in last night. It was several minutes standing quietly next to the “wait here for a table” before someone finally acknowledged us and told us to sit wherever. It was another few minutes before the over-tasked server returned with menus. Once we finally got a chance to order, we didn’t receive some of the food we had ordered - I had to ask for the condiment that was listed as coming with my otherwise dry sandwich, and my husband never received his salad. My fries were lukewarm, and the tomato on my sandwich had an off-texture and taste (like it was both underripe AND spoiled). My husband was at least happy with his steak, even though it was quite rare (he asked for medium).
Maybe last night was an off-night, but if you’re not from Fountain City, maybe this isn’t the right restaurant destination for you. I love to support local businesses - if Monarch Public House is open, I’d recommend there instead. They were quite friendly to us the one time we stopped in, and their...
Read moreI was hired to work as a server here, (mind you I am an experienced server with 10 years of experience?and I know that I get the job done efficiently and the customers 99% of the time love me )but Sarah, the owner decided to fire me because apperently they have a problem with people shooting up drugs in their bathroom, I got fired over a text- She told me that she thinks they were my needles they found and she also said that she wanted to fire me also because I was gross and sweaty when I worked a couple shifts mind you it was 110° out and I was on the patio running food for 8 hours. Also I’ve been sober and am a proud member of Winona county drug court where I am tested for drugs every single day so idk anyways just wanted to let everyone know that the owners here are homophobic and super judgmental people who can only keep minors as staff because they are easier to control. the food is all right the kitchen is very dirty and most things are either frozen or expired. Good good place for some hillbillies to go get drunk at I guess other than that wouldn’t recommend. Also they shorted me 30 on my last paycheck so must be...
Read moreThe outside of the building is adorable but the inside is mostly the same as any other small Wisconsin town restaurant; complete with gambling area and sports on the TV in the bar. There were, however, some cute frog related details and a really interesting engraving of the city. The service was friendly and fast. There was no pride in the food, though. It was uniformly bland and/or overcooked. The chicken alfredo we got for our child was flavorless, came with burnt garlic toast (black side down) and in such a large portion that it was far more than 2 adults could eat. Cod, shrimp and fries seemed to be all coated with the same thick breading and left in the same fryer basket until they were a dark brown and whatever was left in the inside had lost any flavor or proper texture. The salad bar was dirty and had clearly been sitting out, unrefrigerated, all day. The 8oz steak was cooked properly but was difficult to finish due to its lack of care in prep (maybe a little salt and pepper?) And the pan fried frog legs were just bad, don't be tempted. The zum, a spicy sausage soup, was pretty...
