Loved this random last minute adventure, with 3 hours to kill before jumping on the plain home. Thankfully it’s only a 30min drive to the airport, with a beautiful mountain side view… When I got there, I was blessed with extremely light random snow flurries here and there… making it some what magical and the freezing wind slightly less painful 😅…. So the volunteer giving the guided tour was literally the NICEST older gentleman EVER… and Eagerly offered to brave the freezing wind with me in order to give me a tour… letting me know, before we even started, that it would be a quickened version because i came 30 minutes before tours ended and the tour generally takes at-least an hour… so bless his heart, he kept apologizing throughout the entire tour for “rushing” when I was soOo flippin cold I was wishing he’d go faster 😂🤣😭😭 he was AMAZING! Especially considering the fact that it was just me on the “tour” Lolol Also you MUST STOP at the gift shop!!!! Everything is unique and relevant!!!

Kuaua Pueblo has a nice small visitor's center at the entrance, and a trail around the archaeological site. The site dates from the early 1300s to the late 1500s. It may or may not have been visited by the Coronado expedition. Pluses - knowledgeable tour guides and you can climb down a ladder into a kiva that has copies of the original wall murals. Some of the original murals are in the visitor's center. Minuses - some 1930s era reconstructions at the south end of the pueblo, and using a European name for the site (which is Eurocentric and likely wrong) instead of the Native American name Kuaua Pueblo. Overall - excellent historic site, friendly staff, and we enjoyed seeing a kiva interior with the paintings.

Went here on a whim and were very happy we did!! Quite the little treasure of history and past events! Nice museum distinctly covering Native American and then Spanish influence in the region. Fantastic collection of actual, preserved, several-hundred-year-old kiva murals. Awesome 100-year-old, restored kiva that has hand-painted murals created with similar techniques and materials as the originals. What really made this visit special though was our tour guide! She was very knowledgeable, respectful, interactive, and engaging - especially with my teenagers!! We all left very impressed with our impromptu visit!

Great historic site. You park right at the site so you can avoid long hikes although they have 2 miles of trails if that is your thing. Very kid friendly and if you have any mobility issues it would work well for you except climbing into the keva. Be aware though if you plan on going to Jemz historic site from here you will have to go through Jemez pueblo where the treat out if state visitors with a minimum $75 toll in the form of tribal police giving you a ticket for supposedly speeding. We were pulled over going 40 in a 40 mph zone. The tribal officer claimed we had been going 40 in a 30 mph zone but what proof did we have. As motorists we rely on the honesty and integrity of the officers who have been swearn to serve and protect not cheat and swindle. BTW they give a reported 1,900 tickets a month totaling a reported...

I got to this site late after getting my car & getting off an airplane good to stretch. I also got there right as they were getting ready to do a doctoral lead walking, I was the only person there. You could tell the rangers loved the place which was refreshing to see this is more about the native culture than anything else & they have a kiva but again no pictures I went into this one & it was cool. The area has great views are three mountain ranges & the river you can't get too close to the river, but you can see it from picnic area. It's a pretty flat walk guess you could use a wheelchair they have a house the put together to show how it would have been done. Also visit the kiva room no picture but cool to see each layer they got out of the kiva. They have plenty of parking...
