Truly spectacular views.

We started on the La Luz trail but instead of taking it all the way down we turned off and reconnected with the crest trail. It took us 2 hours but we really had to rush it to avoid getting caught in the dark. It would be more comfortable to do this loop in 2.5 - 3 hours.

The trail has some steep drop offs so definitely not for young children or anyone afraid of heights. The difficulty of the loop ranged from very easy near the tramway station to quite challenging with some steep elevation gains.

Sturdy footwear is definitely...

Best views of the Sandias within a short hiking distance. Relatively easy hike with great rewards. We parked at the Sandia Crest parking lot, paid the three dollar fee, found the trail head to the north and walked past the radio towers. The views are fantastic!!The more adventurous can keep going to the highest point on the nort end of the Sandias. We know it as North Peak but is a.k.a. the knifes Edge. The trail is straight up and rocky at points but all and all well...

It's not an easy trail because it's above 10000 feet for the duration of the hike. The scenery is amazing. The hikes starts out level, then drops down 450 vertical feet. At the end, one basically scrambles up to the top with a 100 foot vertical climb. There's a trail but it's steep at the end. The main difficulty is hiking down on thousands of surface tree roots. Then you must climb back up at the end to the Crest parking lot. Take a light jacket because it can be...

I did hike 1.4 miles (back and forth) from the tramway 🚡 station to Kiwanis cabin and it was an spectacular hike. I highly recommend getting out of the main trail to some beautiful view points that unfortunately are not all of the marked but if you follow other people's steps you won't regret it. The view is breathtaking.

This is another must hike trail if your visiting the Sandia Mountain area. We took the tram up to the top then hiked around the rim of the mountain (on the Crest trail) all the way up to the Kiwanis Cabin then back. What an outstanding experience, if you like nice hikes this one definitely one to hit while in the area!
