I enjoyed my time at Dean for the most part, I graduated in 2023, granted 2 years of my school life was online due to COVID which was handled really poorly by the college for the first year. The program for kids with learning disabilities is great, I did well at school due to the help from my amazing academic coach. But other then that the school lacked a lot of other things, professors constantly leaving, the dining hall having subpar food and the dorms were terrible up till I lived in Horne Hall. And on to the worst of it. I was sexually assaulted my senior year by my female roommate, who unknown to me at the time, they had placed in my 4 person dorm room due to her sexually assaulting her previous roommate. Who in their right mind would put someone who had just assaulted their roommate in with 3 other girls?! I also found out she had 2 - 3 other title 9 cases against her for similar situations of inappropriately touching either people she knew or her roommates. A title 9 was filed with the school, an investigation was ongoing and Dean gave her the option to withdraw, to forget all about it and move on to a new school because they knew the final decision would ruin her chances at any other college. They lied to me saying her records would be seen by other colleges if she applied, but it would only be if she told the TRUTH to her future schools that she had had title 9s against her. SO BE WARNED THE SCHOOL DOES AND WILL NOT HANDLE TITLE IX CASES, THEY WILL PROTECT...
Read moreSpent my first two years of college here as a theatre major, and while I liked it at first my opinion quickly changed. PROS: The professors were easily the best part of my experience here. They quickly got to know who I am and what I'm like. Small campus makes it very easy to get around. As for everything else, I can't speak very highly. CONS: The PRICE. Even with all my scholarships and financial aid I still felt bad for my parents having to pay so much when I knew by my sophomore year that I wasn't going to be happy at this school. There's nothing to do on campus or in the surrounding area. I have spent many days in my room bored out of my mind. Classes are far too easy. I can't recall ever spending more than an hour or two total on any given assignment. I spent some classes paying zero attention whatsoever and still managed to pass everything. Even as a theatre major, I got cast in a single show during my time at Dean. Even so, it was just an ensemble part and I couldn't help but feel like I was only being cast out of pity. Part of this did help me realize that theatre wasn't what I truly wanted to do (but that's not on Dean, that's on me).
I transferred after my sophomore year and I can honestly say it's the best decision I've ever made. Dean was okay my first year, but after the terrible sophomore year I had, I'd be happy to never step on that...
Read moreI just finished my freshman at Dean and I am transferring.I've had a bad experience with Dean since my student orientation. I was placed with a temporary roommate that made really uncomfortable sexual comments to me and also blasted heavy metal music throughout the night. Regardless i tried to remain hopeful, however I quickly learned Dean wasn't for me. I am a psychology major and all of other psych majors were in psychology for the wrong reasons and used class time to make tasteless mental health jokes and to vent. I do have to say I do like the professors there and the campus is pretty but residents halls are gross, in the summer my room hit 92 degrees and the school did nothing about it, the food is awful, there was a grill fire causing the grill to need to be replaced, however it took the school weeks to actually do it. Also there are no activities for students, no parties at all, and basically really clicky social groups. I am very glad I am transferring please make sure to really look into this school...
