Within the city of Franklin this place is a nice option for spending some time amidst pure nature. We went there during winter..as the leaves had already fallen from trees and there was a thick snow cover on the lawns we missed the greenery that I am sure is abundant here during any other time of the year. However even with dry texture of bald trees at the background and bright white snow on the foreground the beauty was distinctively pleasing and one can feel as if he or she has come really far from city life. There are many picnic spots in this area, a golf course, archery arena etc. Deer would be roaming all around in the woods as well as open stretches of lawns. two other attractions are Wehr nature center and boerner botanical gardens. Though they were closed as we went there on christmas day. We went there on another occasion and that experience forces me to recommend highly for visiting the park in full moon night..reach the parking on Whitehall park drive near little south of the junction of west college avenue and Whitehall park drive. On a full moon night you park your car facing west - that is facing the slope of the grassy hill, stop your engine, turn of the light and through your windscreen look at the big Whitehall park pond with a background of dark woods and a moonlit sky up above it. The view is breathtaking. Try it to believe it. Perfect place to enjoy the solitary calmness. The parking places are open till 10pm in the park as we noted from some place markers.

This has been a favorite destination of our mothers for years and years, and although she's been gone for almost 27 years, I took my nine-year-old granddaughter here for the first time. We went to the Boerner Botanical Gardens within the park. There's a new attraction, a garden dedicated to children, called Margie's Garden. It was an instant hit with my granddaughter. There wasn't much in bloom, but I already knew that. Mostly tulips, daffodils, and flowering trees. You can get the blooming schedule if you go on their website. Price of admission was very reasonable at $6 for me as a senior, and $6 for my 9-year-old granddaughter. If I would have known the building's close at 4:00 p.m., we probably would have gotten there a bit earlier. Absolutely love this place and just can't wait to take more of the grandchildren back. I even wore commemorative jewelry of my mother's, so that she was with us during our visit.

Whitnall Park Pond trails. This was beautiful! Free entrance and free parking in the lot right before the golf course. It was 90 degrees this day, but a beautiful breeze. It was very humid in some spots where the trees crowded in. Several different trail options, we did the trail around the pond. It was cleared with a wood chip path to follow. Around the pond is not wheel chair friendly. The path is easy to navigate on foot, but there were a lot of places with slight inclines, nothing steep, but not a straight level shot. It was about 1.5 miles walk. Lots of birds, even saw a deer close enough to touch (I did not), frogs, lizards, flowers and a small waterfall. There are benches throughout. No bathrooms at this section of the park. Planning to come back in fall for some of the longer trails when it’s not so hot!

Spring has arrived at the gardens 2019 The kind and wounderful Milwaukee county park workers are out there working on the transition from Winter to Spring. If you have questions they're willing to answer them about planting, feeding etc. The Gardens Park volunteers are out there also. But what is so fun is those little flower starting to pick up their heads from the Earth. The Tulip beds in the front of the building the side and the back area are all about 2 inches high So within the next two weeks we will most likely see the blossoms. The walking areas are dry. Come enjoy SPRING! The Gift Shop is open with all sorts of new products.

By far the best park I have explored in Milwaukee County. Massive grounds with the Wehr Nature Center on the south end. There is a $3.50 parking fee for the nature center, but you can also park outside of the center and walk through the trails to get there. Many walks of wildlife including barred owls, cooper's hawks, swallows, orioles, robins, and many more birds. There are some coyotes, and a high volume of whitetail deer. There's a deer trail along the Whitnall Park Creek that you can walk along! Beware of the three damaged bridges here though, as I highly advise not traversing them!
