We found Fulton and de Immigrant windmill through a news thread of the Coziest towns in Illinois. The volunteer docents are so friendly and welcoming. They are proud of their Dutch heritage and town's history, and it shows in their informative presentations.
While the windmill is considered "new" construction, it is authentic construction by Dutch artisans. A working grain mill, they sell what they grind at the Windmill Cultural Center across the street.
The windmill is perched on the eastern bank of the Mighty Mississippi River, and offers majestic views of the river and the nearby park. It was constructed on the levee that protects the town and that was built by the Army Corps of Engineers after floods in 1967 and 1993.
