A Dutch windmill in Illinois? Yes💨 Check out the Windmill Cultural Center in Fulton, Illinois to see the De Immigrant Windmill, scale models of windmills from around the world, and learn how the center is preserving this piece of history 🌟@Enjoy Illinois @Great Rivers and Routes . . . . . . #ILGRRTWD #illinois #enjoyillinois #illinoischeck #fultoncounty #windmill #windmills #international #cultural #center #history #travel #fall

If you are biking on the Great River Trail, please take the time to stop in. (I don't know how those guides wear those wooden shoes all day!) Also, they actually do milling of local crops, be sure to ask if they don't show their inventory. I almost skipped the museum next door, and I am glad I didn't, a lot of history there. I finally can tell people where to go to when they call a Wind Turbine a Wind Mill!

This was one of those Kismet finds that we didn't expect. The citizens of Fulton, IL researched and had constructed a historically accurate completely functional Dutch Windmill in honor of the city's largely Dutch original population. At one time over 40% of the residents were Dutch. Working with windmill experts from Holland they invested nearly $1,000,000 to create this amazing, fully functional windmill using the construction techniques and materials that would have been used several hundred years ago. The mill is staffed by local volunteers who are very knowledgeable about the operation and when there are two or more of their staff present the mill is operating (allowing for ample wind) A very...

The Fulton Windmill is an amazing feature for anyone with a little Dutch blood or even non Dutch blood for that matter. I believe it was originally built in Holland, taken apart shipped to Fulton, IL. and assembled again where in stands. Which brings another important factor in why I rated this a 5. The location is right next to the Mississippi river, an important Element of our nation's history. Also, the Bald Eagles are beautiful!! Beautiful all around. The little human and I had a great time. She enjoyed the...

This authentic Dutch windmill is a spectacular place! We thoroughly enjoyed our first visit! The tour guides were very knowledgeable and made the tour truly interesting, as they described and showed the operation and history of the mill. When we returned a few years later, we found the addition of a museum/gift shop. That made our second visit even better than the first. Any trip to NW Illinois or eastern Iowa should include...
