My watercolor was last framed in 1963 for my Grandparents who have since passed away. It is the only thing of theirs I have. It has hung in my house and the frame was all wrong, but I did not know why. I had wanted to reframe it, but I felt if I did not know what I wanted why bother? Shirley immediately explained what I could not articulate regarding the relationship of the frame to the art.
She helped me to work through possible selections to find what I liked and helped me to understand why it worked. She showed me selections that on the surface I would have said no way, that frame is ugly, but when she paired it up with another frame it allowed the art to sing. Highlighting the art is the function of the frame. I really respect the fact that she never said I like this one best, or I don't like that one, but helped me to see each with my art and what feature each enhanced. She was full of tricks including showing me how to hold my hands to fool my brain into seeing what it would look like with different frame setups.
Shirley is an artist, not only in traditional art but also in the art of framing. This is where you want to go with anything that has meaning or value to you to be framed. This is a place that will help you find what you like or want when you don't know what you want. You can trust her with your heirloom because it never leaves her store and she understands what it means to you. You will never get this kind of help or service in a chain location. This store exemplifies why small businesses are the best.
I am a little gushy here, but I am more than pleased with the...
Read moreShirley was wonderful and really knows what she’s doing. My wife and I came in before Christmas, a very busy time of year, and she spent an hour talking with us about framing and art in general (Shirley is not only a certified framer, doing museum pieces, but is also a talented artist - please see her web page for all of the services she provides) after showing her the original, expensive piece of art from Europe and explaining what we wanted since this was the first time we were having an art piece framed. She was very friendly and professional going over all of the options, and when we found the frame style that we wanted to use we agreed on a price, which was very reasonable, paid and then left the piece of art with her to do her magic. Because of the time of year it took a little longer for her to finish, but we love the finished product and will definitely be using her again. If you want a print or standard photo framed and don’t want to spend a lot, you can go to a cheaper option like Michael’s, but if you really cherish the piece that you’re having framed and want the frame and the art to last, you won’t be...
Read moreI recently had a marriage certificate of my grandparents framed by Magnolia House...the document had aged creases, what looked like oil stains and really looked terrible. I knew if I didn't get it professionally framed, this important document would not survive.
I selected the color of the matting and the frame and left this important document with hopes that they could do something with it. When I went to pick it up I was absolutely amazed! The document was given the care and attention it needed so that it can be seen by not only my great grand daughter but by family members far into the future. It is my legacy of their heritage. The glass used was UV protected to lengthen the life of the document. If you have something of importance and want it framed, Magnolia House is the place to go. Shirley Hunsberger makes you feel welcome as soon as you walk in the door. It is a special place, run by a very talented and special person. Thank you Mrs. Hunsberger for your...
