While on a roadtrip my wife and I found this lovely little museum. Initially when I looked up museums along the route we were taking back to Texas, I thought this was going to be a museum only about the Cherokee Indians. I had no idea this was a museum about the history of Cherokee county, however this turned into the best happy mistake and we are so grateful we visited.
The lady at front desk when we entered was extremely kind and very polite, helping us with any questions we had. We were soon met by a man named Terry Davidson, a janitor at the museum. Mr. Davidson took time out of his day to give us a personal tour around the museum. Even though I had no clue about any of the history of Cherokee county, I left there with so much knowledge and appreciation for that area. There was so much to see and learn in that museum and I could’ve been there all day looking at all the exhibits and digging into all the relics of the past.
What made the museum experience so special was Mr. Terry. If anyone from the museum is reading this review, please let him know that the couple from Texas is so happy to have met him and it was a blessing that he gave us that tour, and will always be remembered by us. God bless Cherokee County and residents.
For those who have made it down here, please visit this museum. It is totally worth it and you will most feel like you’re at home, with family regarding the museum staff. If I could, I’d give them a 100...
Read moreThis is a must visit museum, and y’all need to ask for Mr. Terry to be your tour guide!! This was the best museum we have ever been to, hands down, and we have been to a lot of museums across the nation. It is located in an old school so it has plenty of rooms and space with different themes. It has lots of history. In the back, they even have some interactive science rooms with science experiments and a VR screen. This museum has thousands of artifacts to look at about the whole history of the county. We have to say, what made us love this museum the most was the southern hospitality Mr. Terry provided during our tour. He was a very knowledgeable, kind, sincere, humorous man that made this museum experience one of a kind. He was very passionate about what they have in their museum and happy to share all sorts of stories and experiences. We are blown away with the fun experience we had here and how large of a museum this was. It was just so clean, well kept, organized well, and overall welcoming. Please, if you’re in the area, pay this museum a visit. You will not be disappointed. This is a hidden gem. One last thing… one of the best parts of the museum is Beauregard the Rooster. He was a rooster who received a military burial upon his death. He needs to be...
Read moreMy daughter rented the auditorium for her wedding and reception. Webbed plenty of room and a good size kitchen to prepare the food. Parking was an issue because we only had the small parking lot outside the back entrance. This was a problem for the older people and people who have trouble walking a long distance. They had to walk all the way around front or walk through the kitchen area where the only door near the parking lot. The name Cherokee Art History Museum is very misleading because it maybe one or two pieces of art displayed and aside from a few old farm implements outside, the only historical display was of The Gaffney High Football teams from the early part of the 1900's. If it is a County funded history museum, I would think that it should contain historical artifacts from the entire county not just a few old pictures and articles about the Gaffney football teams. As a citizen of Blacksburg, I respect those teams and I'm not bashing them. But this county as a whole has a lot of history and some important events in history have shaped. Several major battles have taken place all over the county that helped to make this country the free place it is. It bothers me that not one battle or fallen soldiers name...
