Stopped in here tonight because my husband was curious about the distillery. We did a little shopping in the gift ship and picked up a barrel shaped glass, and a retro style trucker hat.
We sat at the bar and checked out an expansive menu of cocktails with fun names and creative ingredients. My husband ordered a barrel aged old fashioned, smoked. Emily did this impressive display of smoking the old fashioned using what looked like a cloche with a tube attached to it. At the end of the tube she placed oak shavings which she lit with a match.
I don't drink, so I ordered a Shirley temple. They make their Shirley temples using luxardo cherries (which they coincidentally sell in the gift shop) and they're the best cherries I've eaten in my life. I'm going to end up buying a jar in the gift shop for $22. Yes, they're worth it!
All around great environment with a clear view of the distillery. There were oversized couches and chairs, a Super Nintendo with games to play, golden tee, and a big TV. Plus good music. There was a mix of some people with kids, older couples, and then us in our early 40s. Mellow space. Kasey and Emily were very nice, and rounded out an already great evening for my first...
Read moreWe toured this distillery on a three day trip to Galena, and it was well worth the time!
They offer tours at the facility, which we took advantage of. Tours are $10 per person. The guide for the tour was very knowledgeable and friendly, giving a thorough and accessible review of how distill at this facility, which was technically interesting, but very understandable and accessible. The tour was hands on, with opportunities to closely examine, and when possible touch, the materials and equipment. Both of the Blaum Brothers were onsite that day, and pointed out to us in the course of the tour.
Three sample sized shots are included in the price of the tour. We sampled vodka, gin, and a hot pepper spiced vodka. The sampling takes place in a rustic but comfortable and spacious lounge at the end of the tour. This lounge is open to the public without needing to take a tour and includes a tasting bar. We approved highly of both our bloody mary, and the chocolate martini made with the spiced vodka that we ordered while waiting for the tour to begin.
This attraction was well worth the...
Read moreWith the many whiskey distillery I have visited in the last couple years. My review is based on this experience and recent memories of visited distilleries. We visited this distillery during our weekend trip to Galena in January. The distillery is clean and set up well for sitting back and having drinks or visiting the gift shop. My wife had the Apple Pie bourbon drink. I sampled a flight of four whiskeys. They offer 5 whiskies, vodkas and gin. My wife’s drink seemed to dominate the cinnamon spice finish of the whiskey. With some apple up front. The bourbon was a 4 year bourbon and a 12 year bourbon. The rye whiskey was a four year and a five year aged whiskey. The bourbon presented itself as most Bourbons with the caramel toffee vanilla upfront and cinnamon spice like finish. The 12 year bourbon added some dry fruit like like dark chocolate covered cherry notes. Mostly the same tasting notes as the 4 year bourbon. The 5 year rye whiskey offered some more evident flavors over the 4 year. But much of the same the 4...
