The Bolivar Point Ferry: A Seagull's Buffet and Dolphin's Playground!
Every trip to Galveston isn't complete without our traditional voyage on the Bolivar Point Ferry. It's like our family's version of a theme park ride, but with more seagulls and fewer safety harnesses. Rides are always free and the bathrooms are decent-ish. The crews are very efficient at loading and unloading quickly.
First off, let's talk about the seagulls. These feathered freeloaders have mastered the art of begging. The moment you step on the ferry, they give you that look – you know, the one that says, "Hey, you gonna finish that?" Feeding them is like participating in a live-action Hitchcock movie, but with more bread crumbs and less horror. My grandkids love it, and my son? Well, he’s convinced he's the Seagull Whisperer.
Then there are the dolphins. Spotting them is like playing a game of aquatic hide-and-seek. Just when you think you've missed them, they pop up, doing their best impression of synchronized swimmers. It's like they know we're watching and want to put on a show. My grandkids squeal with delight every time, and my husband? He’s ready to join the dolphins and start his new life as a marine biologist.
And the views! Oh, the views. They're so breathtaking, even the seagulls pause their begging to take it all in. The water stretches out like a giant blue carpet, and the horizon looks like it was painted by a master artist. It's the perfect backdrop for family photos – just make sure to keep an eye on your snacks, or the seagulls will photobomb you.
In conclusion, the Bolivar Point Ferry is a must-do. It's a floating adventure filled with laughter, wildlife, and the occasional seagull theft. We wouldn't miss it for the world!
I hope this brings a smile to your face! Enjoy your next...
Read moreI love coming here but I am gona say this, we are visiting galveston for the second time and have not been here in a long time do why the heck did the police officer scream and yelled at my dad, he needs to be respectful and not yelling that is not profesional, he kept yelling and my dad was stuttering and wouldnt let him speak. He was explaining how he did not know but the officer kept interupting him. Please teach your officers some respect because i did not like the way he talked to my dad. He did not know anything, we live in the north of texas just dont visit Galveston often. The car number was #2331 im pretty sure. I did not like how disrespectful he was, please get new officers or teach them to be respectful and not yell. I am not paying taxes just for them just for them to yell, scream, and have anger issues towards the people of the city. My dad was explaining how he did not know there was a line, no he was NOT cutting he just did not know since this is our second time here. AND HE KNOWS WHAT A LINE IS STOP AND HE KNOWS HE IS A GROWN MAN. While my dad was trying to explain the officer YELLED at my dad saying if he knew what a line is and saying that he is a grown man and that he should know. Yes he knows officer car number 2331. PLEASE teach your officers some manners and to be RESPECTFUL TOWARDS OTHERS. Do they need a reminder that we pay taxes for them?! What kind of officers are you guys getting. Man that was NOT TOUGH OFFICER I know you think you are better than others but that does NOT mean you can yell at people. This COMPLETELY ruined my day. I really hope you see this and think about the...
Read moreSometimes, while finding ourselves in Galveston for either business or pleasure, we'll take the ferry across to Crystal Beach.
It's free. A short trip (I think around 15 mins) Once the ferry starts, you can get out, walk around, and see the seagulls. Many times, we'll see dolphins.
You can either drive on or walk on. (Walk on if just taking the ferry back and forth for a fun little adventure) No food, but there is a bathroom. You can climb the stairs and observe from above.
During the summer, the line to get on a ferry gets rather long. Several ferries are operating, but may be an hour or longer wait. You are also subject to random car searches. (We have only been searched once in the years we have been going. Took less...
