Next time you venture down to Galveston Island, there is a gas station you must visit!
Gas Station food...it will either send you to the hospital or a few trips to the small room for some turtle time. And occasionally, one stumbles upon food so good you are left searching for words to describe what just came out of the Gas Station store. Now, like many Gas Station, this one too could use a bit of updating...but as you walk in you are immediately left wondering what it is you are smelling...its not 10 hour old hot dogs on the dyslexia grill, or fresh processed nacho cheese...no, this aroma is captivating and immediately has your mouth watering and searching for the source.
As you make you way passed the enclosed cashier area, you come upon a small nook with a cash register and a menu...and you are greeted with a genuine smile.
You have arrived at Curry Lounge - Indo Chinese Cuisine. The service is master class on how a customer should be treated...Not only will they walk you through what you may like, they will even conjure up a dish not on the menu.
Now, keep in mind this is a gas station, so your not sitting down inside and enjoying your meal...however there are a few tables tucked around the side if you want to eat there...and they have done a nice job with the space they had to work with. They even offered to bring it out to the car if we wanted to wait there. We chose to enjoy the delicious aroma engulfing us.
It was a long car ride home...our mouths watering from the pleasant smells escaping from our bag of food.
That first bite...was like a symphony playing inside your mouth...the spices and flavors were each distinct and not drowned out or overwashed by another...and just when you thought you couldn't possibly taste another flavor, your taste buds would pick up another note. From sweet to spice and everything in-between...all with a perfect amount of heat...one that builds with each successive bite...yet quickly disapate if you are able to put your fork down for a second.
Truly a culinary delight, tucked away in a very unassuming gas station that will have you returning again and...

I had been wanting some good Indian food for a while, and tbh, Galveston doesn’t exactly have a reputation for great food, so I wasn’t too confident I’d find something worth coming back to. Then I found this spot!
At first, I heard a few people talking about it, but out here, a lot of folks aren’t really cultured when it comes to flavor (if you know what I mean.) I wanted real, diverse reviews. Once I started hearing feedback from a range of people, especially my friend from Port of Spain (and she can cook!), that sealed the deal for me! She told me it was legit, so I had to try it...
It’s tucked inside a gas station with a nice patio on the side but don’t let that fool you! The food was on point. I think I went three times that first week trying different dishes: the veg korma, egg biryani, shrimp fried rice, samosas, and another green fried appetizer that reminded me of falafel, crispy on the outside, soft and flavorful inside. I even tried the veggie spring rolls, the aloo burger, and the paneer burger with fries! Everything was seasoned perfectly, not dry, not bland, just full of flavor and spice.
My kid loves it too! We’re pescatarian (no meat, just seafood), and this spot has plenty of options we can enjoy together. The mango lassi is delicious, the sauces are always on point, and the portions are generous.
The owner is also super cool, he recognizes my voice and name at this point and always makes accommodations for us! The place smells amazing the second you walk in, and every dish I’ve tried has been consistently great.
I have refered a few people to this spot! All went back twice! If you’re in Galveston and craving real flavor this...
Read moreThis is really food that's at a gas station by chance - not gas station food. It's really been awesome since they set up shop here! My husband & I walk the dog up here all the time already & love the guys at the corner store, they're a frequented stop for us now w the Curry Lounge! They added a cute little outside patio for seating on the right side of the building which is lovely but there isn't inside seating as it's a cozy little store. It's decently priced food, quality food that isn't cheap crappy fast food, a decent variety of choices for it's niche & has consistently delivered that quality over the weeks we've been getting them... The guys that operate it know is well now & have always taken great care with our food that we've seen. They can take a little longer especially when it gets busy - & it does now - but the outside area seating & corner store being apart of the get up makes it easy to hang around for the small wait... They keep the bathrooms clean too & have pretty good hours really. I love the Butter Naan & their basmati steamed rice. My husband gets the vegetable rice & chicken hakka noodles a lot & my daughter & I both LOVE their chicken strips! They're good, juicy, fresh ones every single time & they're great prices for it! I get them way too much!!! Overall we've loved it since they set up shop at our little neighborhood Ferry Store! Awesome new spot,...
