I recently took my children to this museum and it made for great memories. I went as a young child on a field trip and have never forgotten about it. The same displays that I saw then, my kids got to see yesterday. It was cool seeing their reactions. The same reactions I had as a kid. It was nostalgic to say the least. The couple who runs the museum are so sweet and full of information. We noted a few things in the museum such as a display about the bridge over the Leon River and once we left the museum we went to the historical marker bridge. This museum is free and solely runs off a donations and volunteers. If you visit I highly encourage you to donate. Anything you can will help. We don't want places like this to go out of existence. It's important to carry on the legacy so that our children can attend, create memories, and learn about the history. There is so much to see in this museum you cannot leave in less than an hour so you should go when they open at 10:00 a.m. that way you can spend as much time looking through everything and not...
Read moreMy daughter & I visited this lovely place while driving to Gatesville on an errand. It was such a neat hidden gem. I say hidden because it does not look that big from the outside, but it is actually huge! It was so nice to have visited on their first day of reopening due to getting a new elevator (it has two stories). The volunteers were so sweet and offered up their knowledge on the displays, which was truly appreciated. There is so much history here including the Lloyd and Madge Mitchell world’s largest spur collection and stories behind these extraordinary people. I appreciated the diversity in the museum as well. There were so many displays and narratives posted, that it would take all day to read through it all. If you appreciate Texas History, it’s definitely worth experiencing this museum. I’d like to pop in again if I get the chance to read all of the narratives that I didn’t have a chance to get to last time. The hours were: Wednesday - Saturday...
Read moreThis unassuming museum was AMAZING. We have been to history museums all over the United States, and this museum has things I'd never actually seen in person. They don't have the fancy expensive display boards or anything, but everything is set up SO nicely, with great information and signage. And FREE. My teens enjoyed it and learned new things just as much as I did. We had a field trip here and the younger kid all enjoyed it too, we all spent two hours exploring. There is just room after...
