We were looking to finish off the last room in our house with hardwood floors and I talked to the store manager, Veda Green, on the phone to discuss our options, sq feet, and brand to match our existing floors. We have worked with Rite Rug in the past to install carpet and hardwood floors without any incident. Later that day Veda emailed with a quote for the material we wanted and labor. My husband had a question about the price calculation so we decided to go to the store the next day, with our kids in tow, with the anticipation that we were going to sign the paperwork to go ahead with the work order and installation. Upon arriving and meeting Veda in person, she was already agitated and short tempered. I didn’t even get a chance to introduce my husband to her when she began to tell us that the price was not negotiable and they were firm. We were not there to negotiate the price - in fact we were fine to pay the amount of the quote, we just wanted clarification on the final amount. My husband began to ask Veda, as he was holding our 1 year old daughter in his arms, about why they charge labor on excess wood (a labor charge of a couple hundred dollars which is not right, since this is excess wood that would not be used for installation). Suddenly, Veda stands up from her desk and hostilely pushes her chair back and begins to aggressively yell at us saying the price was firm. It was very apparent that this situation was about to get worse and in order to avoid further conflict in front of our young children, my husband asked for her manager’s phone number to get our question answered. As Veda was refusing to give out her regional manager’s phone number, another man came around and asked us to leave. ALL IN FRONT OF MY CHILDREN! We quickly left, having only been in the store a total of maybe 5 minutes, with my 3 year old son crying about “why the lady was yelling at us”. It was beyond horrible to have such horrendous and callous customer service in front of our small children, and only because we had a question about their labor calculation. Within 2 minutes of leaving, we received a phone call from the regional manager asking about the occurrence at the store. Never once in that phone call did he apologize for the way we were treated by Veda and her employee. For being a store manager, Veda’s behavior was disgusting and despicable to act that way in front of young children!! Ironically, another local flooring company earned our business as they were honest about pricing and treated my family with respect. Rite Rug prides themselves in being a family owned business, but perhaps they should go back to training their employees and managers on proper customer service and family values. We will NEVER take any of our business to Rite Rug again! Please don’t be fooled by their overabundance of store locations in Columbus – there are many other companies that should earn your business! And Veda needs to go back to morale training and re-learn proper...
Read moreThe installation of my flooring did not go well. I was told by my sales rep that I could not schedule the installation in the evening so I had to take a personal day off from my work as a teacher. Apparently the vehicle my flooring was in broke down. My installers arrived after 4:00. The installation was complete between 8:00 and 9:00 at night. I was asked to inspect the installation, but because it was dark, it was difficult to see. The installers cut the cable cord coming out of my bedroom wall. The also disconnected another television on the second floor. Several items of furniture were not returned to their proper spots. I did not notice until after the installers left because the items were in the bathroom. Finally, my front lawn was littered with carpet debris, cigarette butts and other trash which I did not see because it was dark. All in all, I took a personal day unnecessarily, had damage done to my home and trash was all over my front lawn. Rite Rug compensated me for all of this with a check for $100. I found this to be inadequate. When I expressed my feelings to the customer service supervisor she ignored me. All and all a very poor experience. I will not use Rite Rug again for any flooring needs...
Read moreThe carpet is a nice product but my review is based on the install process. The sales person came to our house and gave us an estimate and projected install time of 2 hours. The total space we had done was 650 sq ft. I thought 2 hours was light so I banked on 3. The installation crew consisted on 1 employee and he arrived at 1:45 pm. Worst case scenario we figured it would be 5 pm to have the job done. Being that our son’s banquet was that night I wanted to make sure he would be done so neither of us had to miss it. It became clear at 5:15 that he was nowhere near being finished so I called the store to see if he could come back tomorrow. They told me they would check with the supervisor and call me back. No one called. At 530 the installer put his supervisor on the phone and I asked if he could finish tomorrow because we had to attend the banquet. Supervisor said no but we could leave him there alone and he’d be done by 7. Sorry, we’re not comfortable with leaving strangers in our house so I had to miss the event. Long story short the install was done at 8:15 pm which was about 6 1/2 hours not 2. I emailed the salesman my concerns and got no response....
