BEST MILITARY HISTORY MUSEUM AROUND!
This museum is a MUST SEE for anyone interested in not only military artifacts and reading material, but in the PERSONAL side of military service! The staff there are very knowledgeable on multiple aspects of the service life and include veterans who served from WW2 through the Global War on Terrorism. Sections of the museum are dedicated to every conflict and include weapons, uniforms & accessories, letters and personal anecdotes. A key feature is that local area residents are represented in the museum-something not always found in some larger or more "flaunted" locations. Recommend at least a couple of hours (MUCH more if you're a military history enthusiast) and engage the staff in Q & A-if one doesn't have an answer, someone there will. They shared their memories and those before and after, from Civil War until today. Local history of Veteran's. And Veterans who gave their lives. Rooms and areas depicting our Veteran's. Go early or plan on several days to see it all. Leave a donation please... $1.00 admission or free for us Veterans. Great people volunteering, sharing and giving tours, giving and educating the public. And, if your lucky you can sit and chat with several Veterans. Displays tell stories that allows visitors to connect with each Veteran to include artifacts donated to the museum. The museum curator is a walking encyclopedia whose passion for his fellow Veterans is evident the first time you meet him. The museum is blessed to have Veterans from WWII, Korea, Vietnam, and the Gulf Wars occasionally pay a visit to share stories about their experiences.
