Tucked away in a beautiful landscape, Kentucky Down Under, has a lot to offer. It is a bit of a walk and the first part is uphill so they offer golf carts to rent. We opted for walking and it was fine. There are birds to see, an animal petting zoo, and an animal show. You can go in the kangaroo exhibit and pet and feed the kangaroos. There was s a trail that circles around to see nature. There’s a peacock strutting the grounds showing off his feathers.
There’s Mammoth Onyx Cave has a tour that lasts about 20 minutes give or take. I wore sandals which was a bad mistake because it was very slick in the cave. Fortunately I didn’t fall but I slipped a couple of times. So definitely wear shoes with traction. The tour has stairs that are steep and uneven so expect that. There are handrails for parts of the tour. The guide was really informative.
The gift shop has fairly large with a lot of options of things to buy. You can purchase a gym mining experience as well.
We came here 4 years ago and decided to go again on our vacation. If we go back to Kentucky in the future we will definitely revisit Kentucky Downs Under- with...
Read moreMy sister and (54 and 56 yo) enjoyed this informative and interactive zoo very much. We typically don't gravitate to zoos but really enjoyed a lot of this place. A very thorough review I read said the hill to get in to the place was daunting, and even said it was hellish. It was steep but short, I could have easily walked it but we got a golf cart based on that review. In the end I'm glad we did but it seemed excessive. We stayed all day, 11 to about 4. Loved the animal shows which were educational. Loved the kangaroo enclosure, they were very tame and soft. Didn't love the emus because they are very pushy. Also they need new signs that are proofread by and English teacher, who could coach them on the proper use of apostrophes!! (Wolves's was the worst I saw but the same type of error was everywhere!). Still they are doing a great job to rescue animals and give them needed homes and care, so it's a five star for that. The cave tour was...
Read moreKentucky down under was better than I remember 20 years ago when I went. They had a wide array of animals. The kookaburra’s were beautiful. They had a lot of birds. They give you a map at the beginning to show you where all the animals are. All of the kangaroos and capybara’s are really docile. The emu’s were nice and the overall atmosphere was well-maintained and you could tell the animals are taken care of wonderfully. We even got to interact with a few of the workers and they were really nice. We got to hold a snake. We got to see the fennec fox and the wolves. Overall, the atmosphere was great and I saw people of all ages coming and going. My only suggestion is wear comfortable shoes. We interacted with a lot of the animals and it was a wonderful experience overall. I would recommend buying tickets ahead of time and going on a weekday to avoid the crowds of...
