Rooney Road Recycling Center — Attraction in Golden

I set an appointment weeks ago for a pickup at 8AM on a Saturday. The time came, the time went, and almost an hour past the time they were supposed to arrive I tried calling their office. Well, the office isn't open on Saturday, so I couldn't exactly speak to anyone and find out what was going on. I had gone through the trouble of calling, working within their schedule, getting up early and delaying things that I could have been doing instead, and ended up wasting my time without so much as an explanation.

Wouldn't waste my energy, if I were you. Especially since I had already braced myself for the nickle-and-diming that was promised on top of the cost of them coming out. Oh, and I'd already had to pull out cash, too, which was a necessary inconvenience, since they don't take cards.

Yeah, never calling these guys again. I could have driven there myself and had this handled on my own schedule, not sitting at home twiddling my thumbs waiting for them to never show up. Probably would have cost less. This would never fly for a job interview or showing up to work, and I'm willing to bet that if I'd been the one late to show up to their place for an appointment, they're have made me reschedule.

Total waste of...

My neighbor and I had an appointment to drop off several electronic items this morning. This was the second time I dropped off items here and this experience was the polar opposite of my first. At that time the staff member was very friendly and when I asked her about the charge, she told me that I did not owe anything.

However, this 1 star rating is related to the way we were treated today. I made the appointment and drove there. I opened my hatch and after the cart was loaded, the male staff member treated me like I did not exist. Even after I explained that I was paying the fee, he still did not look at me. I believe that since there was friction among the two of us so when he weighed the items on the cart he quoted a fee of $147.50. I knew that it couldn't have weighed that much and when I told him that we could not afford that, and were about to put these items back in my car, miraculously the price was reduced a couple of times and then eventually to $46.50.

Golden holds a free annual electronic drop off and if I ever have to recycle electronics, I will use...

This is a very efficient setup and the staff were great! Just drove up, a couple of employees came out and collected the items as I mentioned what was what, I showed my ID, paid with cash, and was on my way. I think they appreciate it if you have organized your stuff into groupings of the same products. They even take all manner of light bulbs (I had LED and fluorescent bulbs that I can't recycle anywhere else) and other hard-to-recycle items. Check their website for specific do take/don't take. They list other places you can take items they don't. We have used Sustainability (Arvada) for other items.

Appointments fill up quickly and they were booking two weeks out from the day I made my appointment, so plan ahead. I think this is a great service JeffCo offers. I will certainly recommend the Rooney Road Recycling Center to anyone I know is looking for hazardous waste recycling...
