Only 2/3 mile hike to see dinosaur bones embedded in rock, bulges in layers of rock where dinosaurs have walked, and dozens of footprints of three types of dinosaurs. The sign at the start of the hike says it's 45 minutes to the tracks (the footprints), but that includes the time it takes to stop and read the informational signs that explain what you are seeing. We made it to the tracks with two adults and two kids (7 & 11) in 41 minutes, and back down in about 15. There are some uphill spots on the way to the tracks, also a port a potty and places to sit (large rocks, no benches), or if you're younger and full of energy, climb or go on additional trails. The Dinosaur Ridge museum/gift shop staff were friendly and helpful, and the museum has some cool displays and a video/play area that my kids enjoyed. Read moreSeeing dinosaur bones you can actually touch and feel! So amazing especially for a free hike. A storm did come in when we were up the mountain on a short hike, but it was refreshing. It's fun to watch the bikers go done paths your shoes just had issues with. The climb up the hill from the visitor center and parking is a little strenuous but they offer shuttles and I think they are free. Otherwise be prepared to run across the highway. To me it added to a fun memory. You will learn quite a bit before being able to go back down the hill to the car or on a hike trail. Perfect view of red rocks from here. Better view...
Read moreThis is such a cool place and must visit if you are coming to Colorado! You are able to view unique dinosaur fossils that share a rich history of Colorado. The discovery center is free. You can look at a few specimens and wander the gift shop. There are two ways to look at the fossils, you can pay and book a shuttle that will take you up. This comes with a tour guide who will stop and explain things along the way. You will probably have to wait for a tour bus slot to go, depending on the dah and when you arrive.
