St. Nicholas has been a blessed part of Grand Junction for over half a century. Greek immigrants brought Orthodox Christianity with them to America and the Christian way of life they lived in their every day. The building and establishment of an Orthodox church in their new American homeland was and is a priority. The ancestors and parishioners of the St. Nicholas church have and continue to do what they can to preserve their daily Orthodox living and sustainability to St. Nicholas. They also enjoy giving a glimpse of the Greek Heritage and life during a Greek Festival held at St. Nicholas - although one hasn't been done in the last couple years.
As the world changed and Eastern Europe opened to the West, Grand Junction became the home to several Eastern European families. They too have found their Orthodox Christian home at St. Nicholas. Several other Christians have found solace and belief in Orthodox Christianity and have been welcomed to St. Nicholas. We are all going to St. Nicholas for the same reason: belief, faith, and healing.
Fr. Luke has served our community for 25 years, he baptized my two college-aged kids and I watched his boys grow-up, eating soup weekly, from a young age to the men they are today. It is, indeed, unfortunate when someone has to leave a community however, welcoming and embracing a new generation and the opportunities they provide, including - services several times per week - are always welcomed. Further, It's our responsibility to welcome our new priest, as we welcomed Fr. Luke, his wife and children, when we were all very sad and sorry to see Fr. Samaras leave twenty five years ago.
Moreover, Orthodoxy is not about who delivers its message but, instead, living the message. If the delivery is what's important then true Orthodox teaching has been missed. This includes being honest, compassionate, diligent in our faith and marriage. Being respectful of each other, our faith, and, indeed, LIVING what we have learned by practicing Orthodoxy. A main principle in Orthodoxy is living it in our every day life, one can read and learn and teach or preach but if they are not living this then it's only rhetoric, heresy and/or gnosticm. Live, Love, and embrace life and don't carry problems when only understanding...

But at the current time there is a group of disgruntled parishioners that have worked together to replace Father Luke . They only want service on Sunday morning. It is sad to see a wonderful church become a museum.Money says it all !!! And the Bishop $$ . Money over the welfare of...
